Bossa Nova Heineken

May 21, 2014 | Other

A new Heineken television spot features a young man on a unique journey, set to the music of the King of Rock 'n' Roll. Elvis Presley's "Bossa Nova Baby" sets the tone for a glimpse of a single man's journey to find a mysterious woman. The new ad is being broadcast in countries around the world.

Originally written by Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller, the song was recorded for Elvis' 1963 film "Fun in Acapulco." Recorded in RCA's Studio B in Nashville, the song reached #8 on the Billboard Hot 100 Pop Chart and #20 on the Billboard R&B Singles Chart in 1963.

That is a lot of fun. Hope they sell some beer. Clearly the best remix from Viva Elvis. At full blast in an empty house, I can't help but dance like no-one's watching. With its extra crispness and stronger percussion, I like it better than the original, which is saying something because it's one I've always loved.

No wonder Sony named one of the new compilations Bossa Nova Baby. I would't be surprised if this commercial helps to sell quite a few CD's and downloads.

Very good promotion, maybe those that complained about the forthcoming compilation will take back their words about Sony knowing nothing about Elvis. The commercial will no doubt get many showings during the World Cup, as did "A Little Less Conversation", helping the single to become a big chart hit. I'm not a big fan of this version of "Bossa Nova Baby", but if this appeals to the general public, that's fine by me. I still have the original version.

I have sent an e-mail to SONY Benelux and asked for a single release. I know the song is featured in an album, but for me a chart position would be the cherry on the cake. I really do hope they jump on the bandwagon and take advantage of the free publicity that Heineken will generate. After all, for a large part the success of ALLC was due to the fact that Nike used it in their world cup commercial. BNB was the best remix of Viva Elvis by far. It is catchy and has a little Brasilian flavour to it. I hope it will sell and bring a new generation in contact with Elvis's music. As soon as I get a reply, I will let you know.
