Unedited Masters - Stax 1973

August 24, 2011 | Music

Out now from Venus Productions is a new CD in great sound quality. The first fourteen tracks feature mostly unedited overdub masters and some undubbed masters, all recorded during the famous Stax 1973 sessions. One of the highlight is definitely the complete unedited master of ''Promised Land'' with vocal harmony by Elvis himself, and partly used in the movie and on the album ''This Is Elvis''.

The eleven bonus tracks were all recorded after the Aloha Special for inclusion during the Special shown later that year in the USA. It features several takes of some of the performances, and dialogues between Elvis, the producer and his musicians. We are again able to present all these tracks in our usual ''out of space'' sound quality. As always there are no fade-ins, no fade-outs and all recordings were left as there were recorded. Don't miss this very limited edition and .....If it sounds like from outer space, you can be sure it's from Venus.

yeah whats all the 'excitement'? is their anything at all completely 'new' unheard on this release??

I wouldn't call CDs like this a rip-off, far from it. They clearly state the contents in exacting detail, so where is the rip-off? A rip-off is something that says it is one thing but is another. I notice one of our old friends is back with yet another new name! People can disguise their identity but they cannot disguise their style of writing.

This is a must buy for me :) Perhaps not much new regarding takes but many of the songs are complete and unedited for the first time, the mixes would probably be different as well. Bring it on :)

This Venus guy fails in promoting his records. The "Keep Rolling On" CD had so many surprises the fan/buyer wasn't aware of (i.e. Elvis's rough vocal on one or two tracks which was supposed to be erased etc.). And the Singer CD was absolutely underrated because he failed to bring clearly out that this isn't the soundtrack extracted from the NBC DVD set but the real long-awaited studio-rehearsals of the 68 recordings which we've never heard before. Some fans still don't know that today. From the "Jet To The Promised Land" CD he made only a handful thus he was sold out before the people became aware it is out. So, the manufacturer should optimize his marketing and make clear how important his CDs are realy are.

Obviously, Venus is rushing alternates before Promised Land from FTD is released. What's the hurry. Promised Land is coming soon anyway and with the best sound possible. Don't be fooled here.

I've enjoyed what Venus have done with some of the Stax stuff on previous releases, so I presume this will be just as good. Can't say I'm crazy about the 'sleepy Elvis' Aloha tracks, though I suppose they are just fillers to make up the numbers.

Thats what i find odd about ftd,if they said what the next several releases are, then they would beat them to the punch. Ftd's lack of communcation is annoying and bad business. I personally have lost inerest in them, but a few releases id buy without hestitation.

Santa Claus - thanks for the info on the two other Venus productions. Both of those were absolute gems. Unlikely tracks like PL take 1 will get the FTD treatment due to Elvis' profanities about a minute and 45 secs into the track. However, it has been uploaded to a popular videeo site for anyone who wants to have a listen to it....

Tornado, who is fooling who here?? FTD or the bootlegers?? At least we can have some outtakes NOW, instead of waiting and waiting for FTD. I presume you do not have any VENUS products, maybe if you did you wouldnt make that comment, and keep your mouth shut. If FTD were so damn good they would have released the Promised Land Classic Album by now, but once again, bootlegers beat FTD to the punch. And we are still waiting for GI Blues! And lets not talk about the SUN box set....

super release from a super label. It's look like they works togheter with the FTD label. They give us the quality. Only the cover layout's could be a little bit better. It's not bad. But a must have

I LOVE the Venus label! I think it's a good thing that they "compete" with FTD. It takes way too long for FTD to come with a new release. Instead of releasing the "old" albums/cd's such as Promised Land, From Elvis Presley Boulevard, they come with a way too expensive book/cd entitled "Fashion for a king" with 2 soundboards. It costs for more than € 60,00 for 2 new soundboards! (the book is nice, but only once i'd look at it). Don't get me wrong, I love also the FTD CD's and I buy almost every release. So instead of taking a long time of releasing new products by FTD, the bootleggers are FTD (almost always) one step ahead!

How about they put Elvis albums back in stores, then ftd releases 2 cd best of outtakes? Nah lets buy what we have cause its got a nice shiny cover.
rai wrote on August 31, 2011
The cover looks good though. Guess I'll go for it as the first 14 tracks are real gem. My only worry is the sound quality. Bootleggers often market their product by saying the sound quality is good etc but FTD's always beat them in that category. Let's hope they are telling the truth this time around.
Tony C wrote on August 31, 2011
Anybody that has bought the previous Venus bootlegs will know how good the sound quality has been, I have no reason to disbelieve their claims this time around. It is impossible to lump all bootlegs together, some are great value, some are a rip-off.
KINGE wrote on September 03, 2011
This release gets very high review on other sites and that from fans who is picky when it comes to new stuff on boots.. the sound is unbelivable good on the Stax songs.
