Classic Bootleg Re-issues

June 17, 2008 | Music

The original vinyl bootleg releases "From The Waist Up!", "The Dorsey Shows" and "Shock, Rattle 'n' Roll" will be re-issued on CD by the Dutch Elvis For Everyone fan club. The recordings originate from TV shows from 1956 and 1957; The Steve Allen Shows, The Dorsey Shows, The Ed Sullivan Shows and The Milton Berle Shows. Parts of these shows have been released oficially but here the content is released as complete as possible according to the update.

I remember when I first laid hands on these hard to find vinyls. It was such a thrill, worth the high priceback then! Some years ago I transferred them onto CDRs. Happy to read more people will get the chance to add these unique moments to their collection.

Same here, Natha. It was very exciting getting hold of these albums when they first emerged. I can remember paying £15 per album 25 to 30 years ago, imagine how much that would be now. It puts the price of current unofficial releases and even the complaints over FTD pricing into context.

You lucky son ... Kilburn Tony, I paid £22,50. You're quite right about now-a-days prices. That would come up to almost € 30 I guess and not talking about the (lasting) quality. In those days I had little money to spend, hence the comparison is even worse!

I don't know how the original boot-makers feel about being "booted" themselves (assuming they're not behind these import reissues on CD), but it probably can be considered an honor --- just like the "HITS OF THE '70's" release ! :) Seriously, I'm all for these nostagic releases. I hope they hit their mark in capturing the original flavor of that "risky" world of early Elvis imports.
