I remember purchasing the 45rpm EP when it was first released and was pleasantly surprised to see it make the charts back then! But not THAT surprised, after all it was Elvis talking. The mournful sound of the ships horn at the end summed up our feelings.

This looks great and would love to get my hands on one, does anyone know where these are being sold so I can get my hands on it? Hey MauriceColgan, the haunting sound of the ships horn was a very poingant way to end that record, I can only imagine the emotions that the fan were going through when they listened to that.

Hey TMF! You must be THE Memphis Flash...... now engraved on my memory:-) I have just been listening to "Elvis Sails" just to hear the ships horn again. Nostalgia can be a welcome self induced disease. I hope you manage to get a copy of the new updated version. It contains some funny, heartening, and soulful comments by Elvis.

Hello again MC, you are right when you talk about nostalgia, there are many time when I have put on an Elvis record and it takes me off to another time, the emotions that I was feeling at the time come right back to me. I have been trying to get a copy of the original EP for a while now, but with no luck, they all have been damaged in one way or another. I will continue my search for the record and hopefully get one of those CD's. Enjoy your weekend.

I first some of this audio via the LP boxset, "Elvis' Worldwide Gold Award Hits, Vol. 1," but it's nice to see this CD-version of the old EP of "Elvis Sails" released for the die-hards, as it does honor a real release from his lifetime. I'm not sure if I'll get it (I can barely keep up with the good stuff coming out lately!), but I'll think about it. Maurice, you are right: that ship horn always was haunting. As a kid, I used to find it downright scary at the end of that LP ...!

Hiya Greg, There was a time we old fans thought we had ALL the Elvis recordings we required. LOL. How naive we were:-) The Elvis on the Ed Sullivan TV show DVDs are an eye-opener! Wonderful. Back in the 50s that ships horn left us feeling quite folorn.yes it waS scary... what would the future bring? Now that future isthe Past... or is it. LOL.

Hello, Maurice. Yes, I guess we have our fun "doubling back" on releases we pretty much have...It's a guilty pleasure, perhaps, but no one gets hurt, right? As someone with family roots there (including that Navy Yard), I liken this to Elvis' sole "Brooklyn" record. <grin>

Yes Greg, the Brooklyn esca........release. LOL. Don't forget we oldies in Europe never saw the complete Ed Sullivan shows, so the recent DVDS are very much appreciated. The release of the Million Dollar Quartet also. TCB radio was humming last night! Elvis Sails... on.
