Dawn Of Rock: The Sun Records Legacy

May 04, 2001 | Other
Throughout the month of May 2001, Experience Music Project pays tribute to the legendary Memphis-based Sun Records. Hailed as the original home of rock 'n' roll, Sun Records characterized by a raw, dynamic, rebellious sound that fused elements of rhythm and blues, rockabilly, and straight-ahead blues to create what has since become known as rock 'n' roll. Indeed, the Sun Records rock 'n' roll legacy is as remarkable as the artists who made it famous: Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash and Carl Perkins to name a few. In celebration of Sun Records' immense contributions to rock 'n' roll, EMP has put together a month-long series of programs that include live performances, films, educational workshops and a speaker series including lectures and interviews.
