Mother Maybelle's Guitar At Hall Of Fame

August 24, 2004 | Other
One of country music's most important pieces of history is now home at the Country Music Hall of Fame. It's a guitar once owned by Mother Maybelle Carter. And on Monday, some of country's biggest stars passed it around.

It's a guitar that changed country music forever. It was Mother Maybelle Carter who first introduced the guitar as a lead instrument in country music. While touring with the Carter family in the 50's, Elvis Presley often borrowed Maybelle's guitar when he'd break a string on his. In June, a Murfreesboro philanthropist pledged a million dollars to the museum so it could purchase the priceless instrument.
