Jailhouse Rock #1?

January 08, 2005 | Music
UK TV show CD:UK just confirmed "Jailhouse Rock" as #1 for this week, but tomorrow, just before eight o'clock when the last record of the official chart is broadcasted we will be sure.

It can become his 19th chart-topper - and the 999th number one since the singles chart was launched in 1952. Elvis is still in with a good chance of scoring the 1000th number one - next week sees the re-release of his single One Night, followed the week after by A Fool Such As I.

Click on the quiz on the right to win "Elvis next #1".

Congratulations Elvis, congratulations everyone. No disrespect to any other country but the UK Charts is the big one and this is brilliant for Elvis. Staggering tho how only 20,000 records can get you a number one position isn't it ! Not complaining tho ! :-)

Only 20, 000 ? Hey I might release one myself lol ! Wonder what footage theyr going to use on the chart shows ? Theres ben no videos made for these singles i dont think, well now i am dreaming I suppose .

The record companies are gradually strangling the UK singles chart to death. They would rather we all bought our music off the net; think of the costs they could cut and the extra profits they could make. Never mind, it is still a remarkable achievement for Elvis to have a #1 single. How many other 50 year-old recordings would get anywhere near the chart?

Jailhouse Rock #1 Great but start thinking about next week now!!!For those not aware the UK charts are compiled on sales upto midday on the Thursday prior to the new chart on Sunday evening.Sales/orders after that go into the following week and are no good for the initial weeks surge needed to propel the big "E" high in the charts. I mention this as I met a poor fan yesterdat (Saturday) who thought he was doing his bit for this week not realising that it was too late for his late purchase to count. The morale is buy/order early in the week,or,ensure that you order online from a UK source in advance so the sale registers immediately on day of release.Elvis needs single large release sales on each single to give him the coveted 18 no.1's.Sorry if this sounds obvious but given the size of Elvis'sUK fan club and foreign access to these discs it would be shameful for each of these singles not to go to the top!! Start planning your next purchases for Monday and see the King reign again before downloads make the singles CD charts redundant for ever

This is fantastic news! Jailhouse Rock No.1 for the second time! And don't forget it reached No.27 in 1983 and also charted in the 1970's.... incredible! I hope that they show the amazing dance sequence from the film on Top of The Pops. The boxed set of singles is a wonderful collection that I can't wait to complete, they are a really great design and will be the pride of my collection. Will certainly be in the shops to purchase "One Night" tomorrow! Lets hope "A Fool Such As I" and "The Wonder Of You" and "Way Down" are the original versions and not the alternative versions released on the ELV1S No1s album. Jailhouse Rock has to be my favourite Elvis track of all time, probably the songs Ive played more than any, and according to my mum, its the best rock'n'roll song ever to jive to. Well done Elvis.... and Happy 70th!

"He can't last. I tell you flatly, he can't last." Jackie Gleason said that in the 1950s after Elvis was on the Dorsey show. Frank Sinatra said Elvis' music was "deplorable, a rancid smelling aphrodisiac." And I was thinking of Albert Goldman. Where is he now? Anyone even remember him? Who gets the last laugh now? How sweet it is! But we all knew all along, didn't we?
