$5000 Elvis Photo For Auction to Benefit The Carter Center

January 31, 2002 | Other
Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter and Rosalynn Carter will host an auction to benefit The Carter Center Feb. 6-10, 2002, at the Crested Butte Mountain Resort in Colorado. The Atlanta-based Center is a nonprofit organization founded by the Carters to promote peace and health worldwide. In 2002, The Carter Center celebrates 20 years of waging peace, fighting disease, and building hope in some 65 countries.

This year's auction includes a rare 1973 photo of President and Mrs. Carter with Elvis Presley. This very rare photo was taken in June 1973 when President Carter was Governor of Georgia and his distant cousin, Elvis, was playing at the Omni. The Carters attended the concert. Both President and Mrs. Carter have signed the photo, and the inscription reads, "We met my cousin Elvis in June 1973 at his Omni Concert in Atlanta." This is the only signed print of this photo available.
