There's Gold in the Mountains

Rating:
3.6 / 5

Words & Music: Bill Giant Bernie Baum Florence Kaye

There are lots of girls in the mountains
And they're worth their weight in gold
When they're in my arms with their lovin' charms
A treasure chest I hold

Well there's gold in the mountains, love in the hills
I don't need no city women with their diamonds and frills
There's gold in the mountains and oh what scenery
The prettiest girls I ever did see

There's such beauty there in the mountains
You can feel your knees growin' weak
Every single boy feels the height of joy
When he climbs that mountain peak

Well there's gold in the mountains, love in the hills
I don't need no city women with their diamonds and frills
There's gold in the mountains and oh what scenery
The prettiest girls I ever did see

I said there's gold in the mountains, love in the hills
I don't need no city women with their diamonds and frills
There's gold in the mountains and oh what scenery
The prettiest girls I ever did see
I ever did see
I ever did see

One of the more palatable songs from "Kissin' Cousins". The weak production values and the poor female backing singers keep it from being a really good song, but it is at least a full star better than the first two songs on the soundtrack LP ("Kissin' Cousins #2 and "Smokey Mountain Boy"). 2 1/2 stars.

Not too bad considering the band recorded this in Nashville and Elvis his vocals in Culver City.

A reasonable film song with plenty of oomph and commitment. Not a brilliant production but it does survive outside of the film confines and is just about worth 3 stars

Reasonably bad.

I recall how I felt back then, and I keep that in mind when I play Elvis soundtracks from those days! I felt good about most of those soundtracks LP's then and I treasure the memory of playing them now and then! No big fuzz! As for this song, I enjoyed it then and it is stuck as such! I was there when they happened, and that makes the difference! So, I'm old now?.....doesn't matter, still love Elvis just as much as I did as a kid!

I've always thought of this Elvis movie song as a fun song and I've never skipped it. It's always a joy to listen to.

I like it. "There's Gold in the Mountains" is one of the better songs used in Kissin' Cousins. Not the standout number of them all, but a happy singalong I repeatedly listen to. Four 1/2 stars
