The Walls Have Ears

Rating:
3.4 / 5

Words & Music: Roy C. Bennett Bob Roberts

The walls have ears, ears that hear each little sound you make
Every time you stamp through a lamp and every cup and dish you break

But they can't hear a kiss or two arms that hold you tight
So come on baby, don't fight tonight

The walls have ears, better think before you fling that shoe
If you part my hair with a chair, they'll spread the news to Timbuktu

But they can't hear a kiss or two arms that hold you tight
So come on baby, don't fight tonight

Jets can fly, fast and high, rockets can go even faster
But they can't catch or even match sound traveling through plaster

The walls have ears, ears that hear each little sound you make
Every time you stamp through a lamp and every cup and dish you break

But they can't hear a kiss or two arms that hold you tight
So come on baby, don't fight tonight
Just in tonight
Don't fight tonight

Silly song, but somewhat enjoyable I guess because the lyrics are funny, but I wouldnt play this if you are trying to make a new Elvis fan. Basically a film lightweight non-entity.

A cute and funny song that gets unfairly blasted by some Elvis fans as one of his worst. Really??? This one is smartly written and well performed by Elvis and while not a great track, it is very listenable and featured in a good scene in the movie "Girls! Girls! Girls!" Bad songs are songs like "Barefoot Ballad", "Golden Coins" and most of the "Paradise, Hawaiian Style" LP, not this one.

Not my type of song, but I do understand why the female audience likes Elvis act in Girls, Girls, Girls. It's one of the greatest bloopers in Presley movie career that was only reveled by the arrival of the home video.

When it comes to Elvis recordings after the army years we have studios, movie, live & some others. This is one of those movie songs, normally rubbish, but a few are either good or okay. I'll put this one in the okay bracket. Girls Lp was not a bad album as soundtracks go.

Elvis was at his vocal peak in the early 60's and most of his recordings were soundtrack rubbish such as this. What a waste.

Not a song I ever play or for that matter soundtrack. The song is OK I suppose and fits the situation. The film too was watchable.

So whats wrong with silly love songs? As someone once sang. Not my cup of tea but the movie had it's moments.

I like it - it's not a great song, but quite enjoyable to listen to. In fact I enjoy the whole "Girls! Girls! Girls!" soundtrack.

Very enjoyable song and three stars from me. It is like the movie and soundtrack. Elvis voice and looks are fantastic, the performance is good, the material is average, the overall result is very enjoyable.

Sings it in the scene with Laurel Goodwin in her screen debut and during the scene little Elvis makes his screen debut lol

One of the worst songs on the soundtrack album, its the sound of talent going to waste. Why did you not say no Elvis ?

I really like Elvis voice in this one, and the movie version has just the right beat to it . I dont know what is rubbish about it, but I think that is because my taste in music is not intellectual enough ( it is much more cool to Like The sun records, Beatles and Dyland, then you know that you are hip ), what I do know is that me and my wife both like this one and dance around everytime it is played, and that make this song 100 % legit in my eyes. This isn't a great song, but I've always found it to be enjoyable to listen to due to the funny lyrics. My favorite scene of the movie "Girls! Girls! Girls!" is when Elvis is performing this song because that scene is funny, unique and charming.

I like almost everything Elvis from SUN to the end. I like The Beatles, Bob Dylan and whoever. And I like this too! Elvis' vocal during those early 60's were simply stunning. I happen to like the entire Girls! Girls! Girls! soundtrack also. I take it for what it is. Another well sung soundtrack album. The songs may not come off as classics all the way through, so what? Return To Sender is the classic from here! Pity they didn't include Plantation Rock also back then! I may not be hip or educated or whatever. I like what I like, no matter what!

Regardless, if you like the song or not.. The girls love his performance of the song in the film ! Wink wink. Its a fun song even on vinyl and CD.

Do I detect a touch of the flamenco here, in this delightful song from GGG. I enjoy the whole feel of the performance, the musical arrangement and the Elvis teasing vocal delivery - sorry guys but 4 stars from me.

The instrumentation on this song is interesting, with lots of things going on. That and little Elvis', oeps I mean big Elvis' voice makes this 3 stars material to me.

Just fun. What's wrong with a song like this? For me, nothing. Luckily life has its funny moments and songs like this pop up in my mind in those funny moments. Elvis as a part of my life, serious listening, rockin' away, balads and just in day-to-day situations. To me it does not tarnish his outstanding legacy.

This song is ok, so much better than Song of Shrimp on the same album or Ito Eats from earlier and much better than later songs like Barefoot Ballad. This one is situational, I agree, but it isn't unlistenable on its own. I think it might be a little unfairly maligned. It is no sillier than some hit songs from the 1980s, like "Future's So Bright I Gotta Wear Shades". In other words, its a silly pop song, with a Latin touch. Nothing special, but not an embarrassment. I went to YouTube to watch the scene to understand what some of the comments were about. And....uh, yeah....there's quite an odd and noticeable "bulge" happening. I don't know what kind underwear they had Elvis in under those black slacks!

I know, I know, everyone hates this one, but I just can't. It incredibly catchy. Yes, it's silly and whatnot but it's one of my guilty please songs. Though I would have certainly preferred some better lyrics.

I love this song! Elvis and Laurel do the tango as well. Elvis shows why he is The King!

As a whole I like the soundtrack: 3 and a half stars. As for this song, it's lightweight, listenable filler that works well in its scene. 2 and a half stars.

Probably my least favourite from the soundtrack but it’s okay for a listen every now and then. 2 stars
