I'm Movin' On

Rating:
4.1 / 5

Words & Music: Clarence E. Snow

That big eight-wheeler runnin' down the track
Means your true lovin' daddy ain't acomin' back
'Cause he's movin on, he's rollin on
You were flyin to high for my little ol' sky
So I'm movin' on

But some day baby when you've had you play
Your gonna want your daddy but your daddy will say
Keep movin' on, keep rollin' on
You were flyin to high for my little ol' sky
So I'm movin' on. Move on baby.

Mr. Farmer won't you please listen to me
'Cause I gotta pretty momma in Tennessee
Keep rollin on, keep movin' on,
Please listen to me let this rattler free
And keep movin' on
Move on ol' son, move on

Well I told you baby from time to time
But you just wouldn't listen or pay me no mind
And now I'm movin' on, I'm rollin' on
I'm through with you, too bad you're blue
But I'm movin' on
Move on baby, move on
I said move on, I said move on,
I said move on, I said move on,
Well I'm through with you, too bad you're blue
I said move on, I said move on
I said move on, I said move on

This is such a great track. The version on Guitar Man (1981) is equal in quality.

Written by Hank Snow who was on tour with Elvis back in 1955. An upbeat track that is well constructed, well sung and builds and builds to a frantic last few bars with our boy repeating 'I said move on'. Not the best song from these sessions but still worth 5 stars.

Not sure of this one having known the monster hit recorded by Hank Snow who also penned this country classic. The Memphis album is in my top five all time favourite Elvis albums but I couldn't quite catch on to Elvis' treatment of the song. It's not one I particularly dislike just one I never play.

Not one of his better efforts in my opinion. Everything else on The Memphis Album is 5-Stars. This song is only worth 2-Stars. Other artists have done a much better job like Ray Charles for one.

The greatest version of this classic is by Elvis! He goes from country to rock and back again as only he can.

Wasn't a track I'd request if given a choice from the Orginal album. But in hindsight it was a great choice as the last track. It leaves me wishing he had recorded even more during this period. Yes, great recording.

One of the best '69 session's songs. His voice was at his best for me. Nice lyrics and Elvis sang it very well.

This is yet another classic song recorded by Elvis during 1969 in Memphis. Elvis' rendition of this classic Hank Snow song was tremendous, full of energy and unique.

Sometimes it catches my ear. Other times not. Depends on my mood. 3 stars.

A standard, covered a million times, but i like it. It's entertaining, it's powerful, i always enjoy this one.

A 1969 gem. The studio band really cooks, and Elvis amps it up to another level beyond country. When he was engaged and had a great producer pushing the buttons, the results showed.

Elvis always had a way to do songs his own way. As he did with all the covers found on From Elvis In Memphis. I'm Movin' On included. The country soul shines through on all the tracks on the album. I like it!

Great track which I enjoy, especially the undubbed version. This song and Stranger in my own home town from these sessions are so over produced imo. 4 stars
