ElvisNews review

Halfway through the UK #1 singles re-issues we Return To Sender

Design

This CD-single comes in the original US cover for the outer sleeve with a slick image of Elvis and a lot of advertisements (free advertisement space as the Colonel called it), the inner sleeve contains a copy of the original UK wrapper, a standard RCA sleeve. The vinyl edition only has the original UK sleeve, so no picture sleeve.

Content

The single “Return To Sender” with its distinctive saxophone sound is one of the all time Elvis Presley classics. Although the message isn’t happy Elvis makes it sound “happy”. The B-side is “Where Do You Come From?” We don’t know if someone tried to be funny here, coupling the question “Where Do You Come From?” to the possible answer “Return To Sender” if you don’t know where you came from. The tune itself, from the “Girls Girls Girls” soundtrack is nothing special, it is just background music; we’d rather hear the title track of the movie it came from. Just like "Return To Sender” “Girls Girls Girls” is a happy tune perfectly matching the movie. No alternate take this time.

Conclusion

Two strong songs, they will probably do well, but if they will stand out enough to attract additional buyers to hit the #1 spot is something we doubt.

For those who don’t care too much about the charts, these detailed reproductions are real gems to collect on either CD-single, vinyl (or both …).
