Jailhouse Rock, Volume 2

CD

Jailhouse Rock, Volume 2
Rating:
4.7 / 5
Released: 2010/11 by FTD

2-DISC SET in the CLASSIC ALBUM series (or EP in this case!) that complements its previous volume. It features all the missing outtakes for 6 great songs. The 7” inch digi-pack format features a 12-page booklet with great photographs and RARE memorabilia.

ElvisNews review

Last week the new FTD pile arrived: four CDs and a 2LP-set. I picked the one I was looking forward to the most first: Jailhouse Rock.

Design

The design is like the whole classic album series, tasteful and well documented. This time the production is of far better quality than with volume 1.

Content

Outtakes and the original EP fill these two CDs. What can I say other than this is why I became an Elvis-fan. No, I am not that old, but Jailhouse Rock was re-released in the early seventies and caught me immediately. The nearly a capella version of Young and Beautiful is one of the highlights, but it is hard to name one at all, since to me it is one huge highlight.

The listening pleasure is even better than with Volume 1, because there is more alteration on this set, which is in perfect sound quality.

Whenever I want to hear something different from the regular recordings I’ll grab something like this and certainly not those re-recordings that seem to be so popular these days, which is in my ears unbelievable.

Conclusion

This set makes perfectly clear that it still is nice to be an Elvis-fan, no matter what happens in the world around it.

I'm assuming the majority of these songs will be in binaural or stereo; if not, I will be greatly disappointed and besides I've already pre-ordered my cd of this issue. It's supposed to be issued the tail end of November 2010 so I'm waiting with "baited breath"..... Treat Me Nice (version 2003) is once again, a big surprise with all the takes listed; I can only hope that we aren't talking about incomplete or snippets of takes here, which seems to be the case on a bunch of recent FTD issues I've purchased lately. You think you're getting a lot of different versions (takes) of a song, but in reality a bunch of nothing other than you like to hear Elvis and his group in the background for a brief second or too.... I still am optimistic about this Volume 2 and waiting anxiously.
