Ok Cruiser621, we have your rating (3 times now!). Not a great LP, but a good soundtrack album overall. This is as close as Elvis got to a true musical. I know other movies had more songs in them, but this movie just has more of a musical feel to it. Other than "Petunia, The Gardener's Daughter" (one of the silliest songs he recorded; it works in the movie, but leaves something to be desired on record), the songs are an enjoyable listen. I know that many people hate that Elvis was releasing this type of material in 1966, but it is a whole let better than the album released before it ("Harum Scarum") and the one after it ("Paradise, Hawaiian Style"). "Beginner's Luck", "Please Don't Stop Loving Me", "Shout It Out", "Hard Luck" and the title song are the best of the lot.

This was one of 3 updated CD's I received yesterday and I stand by my one star rating! A pleasant surprise to my ears was the song Beginner's Luck; I was awe struck by this song! The rest of the soundtrack, while listen-able, is your typical movie soundtrack. Once again, Beginner's Luck was the hidden gem for me, keeping in mind I never purchased this LP or CD prior to this and only because I was nosey you could say.

Thank you ttwiise for your opinion; this is without a doubt, the worst of Hollywood at it's worst with a soundtrack to boot. Dixieland? Try King Creole; now that was a movie. Too bad the Colonel wouldn't allow Elvis to do movies with some semblance of a script with real songs aka Leiber-Stoller, not this crap.

Stinker? I think not. Love the dixieland flavor.

Sony-RCA- and the movie (MGM-Warners) companies, should release the movies and the CD soundtracks, in a double package. (CD & DVD). Very often, the movie songs, don't work as well without the visual.
