Wednesday Night Roll Over

September 21, 2012 | Music

It’s All About Elvis! A week into his March-April engagement at the Las Vegas Hilton, Elvis continued to offer generally dynamic performances, filled with good humour and a sense of fun. A good deal of the set from the midnight show on March 26, 1975 incorporated songs from his sessions at RCA Hollywood from earlier that month, all of which would appear on the Elvis Today album. Three-quarters of his two most recent singles received an airing as well, with ‘Promised Land’ sounding frisky indeed. The often-lengthy, angry and too-revealing monologues from the previous summer in Las Vegas were now gone.

On this set is a superb-quality off-line recording of the entire show, and it’s a delight. There are commendable performances of 'I’ll Remember You’ (with a quick one-liner of Dionne Warwick’s 1967 hit ‘Alfie’ at the start), 'It's Midnight' (with a funny false start), 'Big Boss Man', ‘And I Love You So', 'Burning Love' and his current top-twenty RCA single, the dramatic 'My Boy.’ Elvis even throws in the seldomly performed ‘Until It’s Time For You To Go.’ Wednesday’s child might have been full of woe, but Wednesday night’s gig at the Hilton is full of go-go-go!

As fans have come to expect, this recording is of very good quality, sourced from an early generation copy of the original cassette. It was recorded by the same fan who taped shows used for our previous release, "AMORE, ELVIS". The digipak contains excellent liner notes and is filled with photos from the March-April 1975 engagement. As usual, these recordings have been carefully engineered to be presented in the best possible sound. If you have enjoyed "AMORE ELVIS", you will love "WEDNESDAY NIGHT ROLL OVER"! That’s a guarantee, baby!

I love the phrase :"....sourced from an early generation copy of the original cassette". The only reason to do is, is to convince fans that no copy of a copy of a copy of the show is used and to trigger fans to buy these cd's. The producers compare this CD to "Amore" and i must admit the 1st CD of that set has pretty good sound for an audience taped show. It is a shame that only audience recorded CD's are released on the market. Aren't there any good sounding soundboards anymore? At least these bootlegs has great covers with a lot of photos. Maybe this is your money worth?

The definite proof that it is indeed a new source is the fact that the show is complete for the first time here. Also the sound is much better here. I could listen to a short sample. ALL cdr floating around in collectors cirlces and could have been used as ""....sourced from an early generation copy of the original cassette"...end after Steamroller Blues. So it MUST be a new source.

Nice cover,i like the 75 shows for most part. Ciscooking when is ftd going to release those opening & closing night jan/feb 1970 shows as a set of course. Those imports are long gone and those shos show elvis in fine form. And tell ernst that fans want a on tour 1pril 72 show, just pick one. Another saturday night was a cool release, see i just praised ftd.

Nice package, good gig. Too bad the tape is recorded next to the die-hard fan Emma Longlander who did eveything to get a scarf, even farting in the beginning of It's Midnight (that's why the false start)..

mature....opening & closing night jan/feb 1970 shows have already been suggested ..let`s see how Ernst decides... not TOP priority though..

Oh thats too bad, i guess the august 12th 72 show is more important, strange way of looking at things. Why would the shows not be top priority or this going by the folks who have the imports?

Think about it..the show is an extra to the 1972 rehearsal..nothing more..a 1970 show doesn`t fit to a 1972 rehearsal.. priority is the rehearsal not the show..makes sense..?

The rehearsal from this new release should have went with the from hawaii to las vegas release, and been a rehearsal 2cd set. The commet on the jan/feb 70 shows has nothing to do with the new rehearsal/concert release. When ftd decides to release a on tour shows or the opening/closing night shows then i will buy.

Doesn’t he say it’s Saturday night in Las Vegas after I got a woman? If I’m right then why is this called Wednesday night rollover?
