Warner 2007 DVD Releases

May 07, 2007 | Video
Here are the details from Warner Bros Finland on the 2007 DVD releases from Warner Bros. The company will release 9 and possibly 10 DVDs:

One disc editions: "Charro!", "Kissin' Cousins", "Girl Happy", "Live a Little, Love a Little" and "Stay Away, Joe".

Two disc editions: "Elvis: That's the Way It Is" and "This is Elvis".

Deluxe editions: "Jailhouse Rock" and "Viva Las Vegas".

The editions of "Jailhouse Rock" and "Viva Las Vegas" include a documentary. The cocumentary for "Jailhouse Rock" is called "The Scene that stole Jailhouse Rock". For "Viva Las Vegas" the documentary is called "The Kingdom: Elvis in Vegas". "TTWII" includes both the original and SE editions while "This Is Elvis" includes the theatrical version and much longer TV version plus other material. The single disc releases probably don't include any extras.

Also mentioned is "Tickle Me", but no details were given.

Sounds good yes, but id still like Elvis on tour and the lost performances on dvd, even more than the rest of the movies, but its still good,i do welcome the 2 disc set of this is elvis and to have the original ttwii in print again will be great and hopefully this time with some real sound,i can always ski[ through the silly talking heads, and get to some of those great performances cut from the remake!
mature_elvis_fan75 wrote on May 07, 2007
Let me add that i hope that cover to this is elvis isnt the one they use, i liked the original way better, every pic doesnt have to come from the 50's lol

Girl Happy and Kissin' Cousins. At last!! I hope the missing songs have been restored.
todd3368 wrote on May 07, 2007
Does anyone know if these will also be on the Region 1 dvd format? Just out of curiosity, is most everyone on this site in Europe? TCB.
todd3368 wrote on May 07, 2007
Also, is this going to be a box set or must you purchase each disc separately?
marco31768 wrote on May 07, 2007
GREAT! "This is Elvis" on DVD!! I hope (but I don't believe it...) that BMG/SONY will release the soundtrack on CD too.
Rusty wrote on May 07, 2007
This is fantastic news. it sounds to good to be true, I'll wait until I see them on Amazon before I break open the bubbly. 'This Is Elvis' 'TTWII' and 'Girl Happy' yippee !!!!!

That is really great, but I want to know if any of the movies will be released on blue ray...I hope so!
Dixieland Rock wrote on May 08, 2007
This is great news indeed. But my question is, will these film like "Kissin Cousins" be the complete unedited films the way they were originally released or are they edited version omitting certain song? I'd like to update my collection with DVD versions but I want to be certain that these films will be complete and unedited the way they were intended to be. Does anyone have any info on this? Thanks in advance.

As I understand it, Tickle Me is coming out as a R1 release. All of the six movies making their debut were originally slated to be released in early 2005, but were delayed just due to copyright issues on certain songs (such as Smokey Mountain Boy). Knowing Warner, and their impressive backcatalog record, I'm confident that these issues are now resolved and all the movies will be intact and in anamorphic widescreen to boot! (OAR for all of them is 2.35:1).
JerryNodak wrote on May 08, 2007
Scott Hayward: What's an R1 Release?
Scott Hayward wrote on May 08, 2007
R1 = Regioncode 1, that is for US only.
FJE wrote on May 08, 2007
This is great news of course. I just hope the original version of TTWII has remastered picture and sound similar to the SE version. The copy I own, which was released when DVD was still in its infancy, has very poor picture and sound only in mono despite the cover saying that it was in stereo. I would still have a preferred a proper Special Edition of this great doc with all available footage integrated into one film but I suppose that's asking too much (!). And I'm not too ecstatic about the covers either (at least as shown above). I very much prefer the ones on the last batch from Warner, like "World's Fair", "Speedway" etc. Anyway, all that's left now is "On Tour". Is that going to be the BIG surprise from Warner for the 30th Anniversary? I do hope so!
elvis-finland wrote on May 08, 2007
R1 for Canada too. R2 is for Europe. R0 is for all areas. These will be released on R2 code, and Tickle Me in R1. Yet is unknown will Tickle Me ever be released on R2 code. One chance watch R1 coded DVD's on Europe is to buy a player which plays multi codes or use your computer's DVD player.
hankfnsw wrote on May 08, 2007
Come on Warner Bros. The covers are flat. More colour on the covers please. The first release of Viva has a beautiful colour cover! Don't cover half the name Elvis over the image of our man. Why only single disc for the other titles? The co-stars are still alive. Yvonne Graig for example has many stories to tell on set in Kissing Cousins. She does the convention scene.
moody blue wrote on May 08, 2007
I actually like the covers, they will certainly stand out from the shelfs.what will be really interesting is if there will be a major advertising campaign.
pasa-ryu wrote on May 08, 2007
well,i hope they finaly release 'this is elvis' on dvd .along with the both versions of 'thats the way it is'?..i just hope they decide to actualy advertise these dvd release's??..cant wait to see 'this is elvis' remastered on dvd!!..it is about time.
lvisfan wrote on May 08, 2007
I agree...this is great news! We may finally have all of Elvis' films complete on DVD. EJF, I have the original "TTWII" DVD and mine is stereo and great picture quality to boot. I hope the other movies are released in stereo as well. I mentioned on a different post recently that "Viva Las Vegas" is in stereo when Turner Classics shows it. And the picture quality is far superior than both my DVD's (which are mono as well). If they don't release them correctly, what's the use in buying them again other than to get the new ones that haven't been released yet. This all has been way overdue.
king al wrote on May 08, 2007
Great news. I never saw the TTWII original movie.
Ton Bruins wrote on May 08, 2007

Best news for 2007 so far. Bring em on!
elvis-finland wrote on May 08, 2007
To Mofoca22: release date is unknown, but month is August.
mature_elvis_fan75 wrote on May 08, 2007
Is this official news?
2kisses&3scarfs wrote on May 08, 2007
Terrific news! Great to hear the theatrical version of "This Is Elvis" is finally coming out- it showed the "unedited" Elvis at his best!! Now I won't have to watch my TV tapes of that version anymore.
elvis-finland wrote on May 08, 2007
To mature_elvis_fan75: as you probably see those cover photos up of the page, doesn't only that make you think this is official? This is official, I got a press release about these DVD's from Warner Bros.
mature_elvis_fan75 wrote on May 08, 2007
I just wanted to make sure,we have heard rumors for some time now,and sometimes theres mock covers made, wasnt meant in any other way! Peace
elvis-finland wrote on May 08, 2007
Well, of course nothing is 100% sure, but Warner had press release about this and it said these will be avaible August 2007, so if nothing bad happens, we will see these films on DVD then :)
whetherman wrote on May 08, 2007
Actually, I like these covers very much. Some nice photos being used rather than the ones normally seen. Would like to see the Charro and Stay Away Joe covers too, bet they're just as good. Very excited about the contents of these DVDs, we're all in for a treat come August.
Maybellene wrote on May 08, 2007
Elvis '77 in "This Is Elvis" is great and sure we all will buy it, but we want full "In Concert" release too.Perfect covers and finally "original TTWII" & Deluxe "Jailhouse Rock" on DVD.Thank You Warner!

What! No Elvis On Tour! What is it going to take to get EOT released like the 68 Special was. These DVDs are great news, But very disappointed with no On Tour showing up.One thumb down.
todd3368 wrote on May 08, 2007
Mr. Elvismovieguide, two questions...1. i'm still unclear whether or not these will ALL be available in the US? I saw comments stating that Tickle Me will be Region 1, but that's it?? 2. any idea if they will be selling in a box set format? Or will they be sold separately? Thanks for your help!! TCB.
JerryNodak wrote on May 08, 2007
Firstly, Just because EOT isn't mentioned by name in this story that doesn't necessarily mean it won't be released. Perhaps news of that will be in a separate story. Secondly, IF it's not released at this time it may well be that there are music publishing issues yet to be resolved. Better to resolve those issues than to release a half-assed version. The bitching in that case would be endless. Can't we ever be content with what we are getting instead of always complaing about not getting everything all at once?
ttwiise wrote on May 08, 2007
great I can buy ttwii se, jailhouse rock and viva las vegas again! What no out-takes on ttwii...criminal!
mature_elvis_fan75 wrote on May 08, 2007
Maybe a on tour set is coming, but if its not this year, then id love to have the original on dvd,i also hope as already mentioned that the sound is right on the original ttwii, im guessing it will be,be glad to get rid of the vhs tapes i have, has it been said already that no on tour set will come this year?and im also curios as to these being usa releases as well, but im sure they would be right?
RonBaker wrote on May 09, 2007
I will be happy to get Kissin' Cousins and Girl Happy on dvd...and I hope Tickle Me is also released. I will only complain if songs are cut "Smokey Mountain Boy" HAS to be in Kissin' Cousins...maybe it isn't a great song by itself, but it sets the whole scene for that movie.
elvis-finland wrote on May 09, 2007
To todd3368: Yet is unknown about R1 releases, but I'm quite sure these all will be avaible on R1 too. Some sources says that "Tickle Me" would be avaible on R1 only, not in R2. It doesn't mean it would be only of these films to be released in USA, I think all of these are going to be released on there too.
Tupelo wrote on May 09, 2007
I'm looking forward to Charro, that is the only Elvis movie I dont have and have never seen, so I'm sure going to buy this one. And I dont have an original Jailhous Rock and Viva Las Vegas so probably going to buy these to, I wonder what the extra material exactly will be.
pasa-ryu wrote on May 09, 2007
i am really looking foward to these dvd's being released 'offically' by epe, as it's about time that 'this is elvis' and 'charro' has a proper dvd release! (it will beat the rubbish versions from 'hollywood classics' lable, which are way to expensive for bad quality dvds). i just hope and pray that our hopes are not destroyed as previous claims that these classic elvis movies were promised to be released 'offically' countles times on various websites and thet never were! i will be a real treat watching 'this is elvis' and 'charro' on a proper dvd release, rather than a bad quality version or the old vhs tapes. If this dvd's are gonna be released, i certainly will not be missing out on obtaining them. Only time will tell? something to look-foward too!!
elvis-finland wrote on May 09, 2007
Documentary for Jailhouse Rock is called "The Scene that stole Jailhouse Rock". For Viva Las Vegas documentary is called "The Kingdom: Elvis in Vegas". Well, it was written as "Kindom" in press release.

Antjie wrote on May 10, 2007
I'm really glad about the feature movies on DVD for the first time! A big thank you to Warner. However, I'm very disappointed about TTWII & This Is Elvis. Sure, getting the original versions is great - and they should be included in re-editions - but overall this looks like a minimal effort to soothe the fans and cash in on the 30th Commemoration. (We do already have TTWII SE on DVD, don't we?) What should have been done as a tribute to Elvis's legacy, was Extended Editions of both TTWII & This Is Elvis (like 68 & Aloha) with ALL there is to see of the LOTS of hours and hours of footage still lying around in the vaults. A 2-Disk release will not achieve this aim. Once a complete remake of This Is Elvis - minus the impersonator footage - was talked about, but obviously the idea was dropped? A pity. It would've been a daunting task to re-edit the massive amount of available footage, however not impossible. Certainly the Artist Of The Century is worthy of such a project. I know, I know ... it's all about the money. However, Warner surely realises that this could've become THE Ultimate Elvis docu-drama - to enthrall not only fans for generations to come, but also the casual history/music lover. A greatly missed opportunity. The best we can hope and pray for is that one day an Ernst Jorgenson will be employed at Warner. Till then, I suppose, we'll have to be appeased with the crumbs.
Steve V wrote on May 10, 2007
Agree with Antjie about TTWII - I am a bit let down. With all the unreleased footage avail we are just getting the 2 movies that were released before on DVD. Nothing new there. If not now, probably never and that's a pity.
JimmyCool wrote on May 10, 2007
Don't worry, folks! I heard that they are planning to release ALL "That's The Way It Is" footage, along with "ELVIS On Tour" and "In Concert" for the 50th Anniversary of Elvis' death...
Antjie wrote on May 11, 2007
Great news, JimmyCool. Let's see ... yes, it may be just in time before we have left the building! ;-)
JerryNodak wrote on May 11, 2007
Crumbs? How much stuff do you want all at once? I know, I know... everything!! I'm more than satisfied with what we are getting. I won't even be able to afford it all.
Antjie wrote on May 11, 2007
No, no, no, JerryNodak, I don't want them all at once! Why wait for y-e-a-r-s and then bombard us with the lot ... whoops, forgot, cashing in is the name of the game for 2007. I understand Jailhouse rock (50 years) but Viva Las Vegas? I'd rather have one decent extended project release at a time. (Okay, so I won't cry over 2.) Why do it halfway, just to re-do it again (even if only in another lifetme?)
SPK wrote on May 11, 2007
