Unrecorded Elvis Song To Be Recorded By Impersonator

April 05, 2005 | Other
The song "If I'd Only Bought Her Roses", apparently co-written by Elvis Presley, surfaced last month at auction on eBay and was bought by Chris Davidson from the Elvis-A-Rama museum. The song, a bittersweet ballad of lost love and regret, was never recorded by Elvis, according to sources Elvis considered it "too personal and painful," at the time.

"We're looking for the world's best Elvis impersonator to record the song," said Davidson. "We hope to consummate an agreement with a production company for a multi-episode reality TV show. The Elvis-A-Rama Museum is in the process of creating an international contest for the impersonators with tryouts likely to be held in Sydney, Frankfurt, Tokyo, London, New York, Los Angeles and Memphis as prime locations. Final selection will take place in Las Vegas.

I think they should ask Shaky to record this song as he is the closest to being able to sing like our man Elvis.
Priscilla wrote on April 05, 2005
Elvis girl that is a very good idea....Shaky would do a brilliant job of recording it and would do Elvis proud! Now we just need someone to put the idea to Shaky himself!

Shaky who?
bossanovababy wrote on April 05, 2005
Morning guys. Shaky was the reason i got into Elvis in about `82 or something! It would be cool to hear this song full stop.TCB

Wow.. Other people who appreciate Shakin' Stevens!! I thought I was the only one..

Hey, shaky is on Hit Me Baby One More Time this weekend, singing Green Door i think. I thought i read on ElvisNews a while back that the above song was actually meant to be MLTR? I assume now it is different then?! TCB

I don't believe Elvis ever co-wrote this song... It's just not the way E used to work... and what about this statement Elvis wouldn't cut a record that's "too close and painful"? what about "always on my mind", "you gave me a mountain", "pieces of my life", "i'm so lonesome i could cry", "mama liked the roses" to mention only a few? It truly sounds like a hoax... impersonators you said?
Priscilla wrote on April 05, 2005
Yes Kevin K i like Shaky...i went to see him at the Cambridge Corn Exchange around 1990 he was excellent, put alot into the show so who better to record this song hey!

Please no impersonator... -.-

The best Elvis Impersonator in the world has got to be the one and only Eliert Pilarm of Sweden. If he sings this song, it will surely be the ultimate version.

As far as the found Elvis song what about an entertainer from Milwaukee,WI by the name of Tom Green, what a voice he has and he is also a life long Evis fan.
Sean Ryan wrote on April 05, 2005
Firstly, this song supposedly written by Elvis is a hoax. If Elvis ever wanted to write songs like this, there wouldnt be just turn up. My guess is that it was written for Elvis. I still dont understand why they would want a impersonator to record this? It would sound awful. Shaky has always hated being compared to Elvis so he would turn this down if he was offered it anyway.
Ton Bruins wrote on April 05, 2005
Oh no, not again about impersonators. Tell me this story is not true, please.
Jen74 wrote on April 05, 2005
Evry one of us know at list one bes ETA or impersonator. My idea of best impersonator is ERAN LEVRON from Israel. That is whay they will have to go a had and make an international contest to decied who is the best of them all. I think it's a great idea.
Celvis wrote on April 05, 2005
you should try and contact Jamie Aaron Kelley he is not an impersonator , but a very talented singer.Jamie did a cd titled 'Unfinished Business" once you hear this cd you will know what I mean. He is an Elvis fan and knows all the words to all the songs that Elvis recorded, Jamie is is very very good, I dont think you would be sorry.

you guys ever hear of Helmut Lotti. his verison of Crying in the Chapel is so close to Elvis, you could fool most people. he got his start impersonating Elvis winning contests. like Elvis he can sing anything and does.
Elvos wrote on April 05, 2005
HAha NOBODY can even come close t o how Elvis would have sung it? It's not just that voice, How much more emotion would there be in that song IF Elvis wrote it himself and would have sung it himself! But at least maybe we can get a small impression of how it could've been! IF ONLY! So I'll keep singing a song..
Shaky wrote on April 05, 2005
Shakin' Stevens like the other Elvis clone, CLiff RIchard have spent years claiming their original when it's obvious they owe EVERYTHING to Elvis. P.S. Green Door was a classic long before Shaky did it - Frankie Vaughan had the original hit in the U.K.
bossanovababy wrote on April 05, 2005
Hello, my opinion for what it`s worth is that if it is an Elvis original then he would`ve recorded it himself. Regarding impersonantors, i think if it`s a young `Elvis` and he doesn`t try too hard, and doesn`t try to too Elvis himself (you know, over the top nonsense, ONLY Elvis sounds
bossanovababy wrote on April 05, 2005
not sure what i pressed there! anyway, basically impersonataors should be gathered together and shored away on a distant island all by themselves-no offence! TCB

I agree with TCB. Did anyone catch Jerry Springer on the ITV show "Stars In Their Eye's",this was another reason I hate impersonaters. Jerry has to be the worst of all on this planet he should be shot for portraying Elvis like that. Shaky, Shakin' Stevens or to give him his real name Mike Barret, was / is the best portrayal of Elvis I have ever seen.

maybe EDDIE MILES.

The only good impersonator I ever saw was a dead one. The fact that the owners of this alleged song are looking for an impersonator to sing it merely goes to prove how little they actually care for Elvis's image and how much they love to make money out of naive "fans". As for whoever suggested that Elvis thought the song "Too personal and painful" - No one who understands the way Elvis recorded would say anything so stupid. What's more I am amazed that some so called "fans" believe this load of b/s.
elvinpelvin wrote on April 06, 2005
Too personal and too painful?! Oh come on. The person who wrongfully quoted Elvis on that obviously forgot about songs like, "Seperate Ways", "Always On My Mind", and "Hurt". Elvis was no stranger to sentimental songs pertaining to his personal life. Sorry, but no Elvis impersonator can bring to the table the hurt, the pain, loneliness, and frustration that Elvis would have put into the song. No sale in my book.

Give ELIERT PILARM a try - you ain't heard nothin' yet believe me.

Green Door was a classic long before Shaky did it - Frankie Vaughan had the original hit in the U.K.". IMNSHO this is complete bullsh*t, both give more than enough credit to their great example. Especially Sir Cliff; he says on almost every show I have "wouldn't there be no Elvis, there would not have been Cliff Richard". And yes, I have more than one show of him :-). And of course Shaky recorded a lot of old songs (gladly!), but his biggest hit "Oh Julie" was written by himself. I do agree with the remark of Viva, about the only good impersonator being a dead one. About this article, again IMNSHO... I wouldn't be surprised if it is a complete hoax set up by that Elvis-a-rama thingie. Make up a song, put it for sale on eBay, buy it yourself... and you get a lot of attention.

The thing I can see about this so called song is, if Elvis considered it to painful etc etc to record..then why write the damn thing in the first place...surely that shows how much of a hoax this is,let's forget this garbage.

NO ONE will ever come close to Elvis..Most impersonators are an embarrasment ,they have done more harm to Elvis memory than any book written..Its one thing being a fan,but some impersonators need SERIOUS treatment if they imagine they resemble or sing like him..We dont need them.
elvislady wrote on April 15, 2005
Elvis never recorded this song for personal reasons, and i hink it should be left alone. no one will ever do a better version. not even an impersonater. i went to see one and they don,t even come close to the reall thing.
