Sony Music Entertainment Announces Two New Certifications for Elvis. Thirty-three years after his passing, Elvis Presley continues to earn gold and platinum certifications.

The album "Elvis" has been certified five times gold. It was released on August 1, 1973. The album "Elvis in Hollywood" has been certified platinum. It was released on January 1, 1976.

In the U.S., the Recording Industry Association of America awards certification based on the number of albums and singles sold through retail and other ancillary markets.

That's a great news ! is "5 times gold" = to 2 x platinum + 1 gold ? if I am not mistaken , the new total for certified album sold in the States is now 127 M. Does it make Elvis finally ahead of G.Brooks ? It seems that sony is speeding up the certifications process...

Great news that the "Elvis" (Fool) album has now gone Gold. Despite the imaginative choice of title (!) this is a good album. I wonder if the recent FTD release release has been instrumental in finally nudging this into the Gold category? Either way it's very good news. I reckon the current "Viva Elvis " album will probably also be a steady seller & eventually reach gold – like it or not!!

Whoops! The "Elvis" album is in fact the US Brookville TV-advertised double LP. (Also with Aloha cover shot!)

2 New RIAA Awards For Elvis. It's the 2 Brookville Marketing albums (sold only on television). 'Elvis' - issued in 1973 - 5 x Platinum. 'Elvis in Hollywood' - issued in 1976 1 x Platinum. Great news as this puts Elvis ahead of Garth Brooks again as the Biggest Selling Solo Album Artist of All-Time in the U.S.A. Brooks currently has 128 million and Elvis now has 129.5 million. There will soon be more on the way. The RIAA is always a few days late in updating their site in case some of you are wondering why it is not listed yet.

That ridiculous method of counting records drives me nuts... if Elvis has 50 albums that have sold 999, 999 copies he gets no credit at all. And if he has only sold 129 million records, I'll go he... I nearly have that many by myself!
