Turner - MGM DVD Update

August 19, 2005 | Video
Tom Brown from Turner Enterprises provided an update at the "Insider's Conference" during Elvis Week, on the 6 DVDs announced last year for release in January 2005 according a posting by Mystery Train on the FECC messageboard. Supposedly he said that they all have been mastered and are ready, but there are legal problems with a couple of songs. He knew of no date for release, but indicated they will be released. The six DVDs supposedly are: "Kissin' Cousins", "Girl Happy". "Tickle Me", "Stay Away, Joe", "Charro", and an extended version of "This Is Elvis".

An extended version of "This Is Elvis"? Now, wait!, Mr. Jorgensen and Mr. Semon, isn't this the right moment to re-release the "This Is Elvis" soundtrack? What about an special package in the FTD series? Yep, as you've said about "On Tour" but instead of it.

Great to have all the remaining Elvis films in my DVD collection. Only yesterday I watched "Stay Away Joe" which I taped off TCM last Tuesday. I really enjoyed watching it again and I feel this film is hugely underrated. It's quite a good comedy and the supporting cast, like Burgess Meredith, Katy Jurado and Thomas Gomez (as the Grandpa) are really funny. Pity "Live A Little" is not scheduled for release yet. As for "On Tour", is it being shelved for a future upgraded Special Edition? One can only hope!

I don't have any doubt that someday we'll get "Elvis On Tour" in a look-a-like of the "That's The Way It Is" we got, but till then I'm pretty thankful of the ones we're bound to get. I'm going to enjoy very much at least "This is Elvis" for sure!

I don't think that This Is Elvis is one of the movies, and that it's Live a Little instead. Here's the original newsbit from August 2004: Jack Soden (EPE) [told about] the 6 new Warner Bros DVDs that are coming out on January 8th - Charro, Kissin' Cousins, Live a Little Love a Little, Stay Away Joe, Tickle Me and Girl Happy.

I have been waiting a long time and anticipate a This is Elvis extended release on DVD almost as much as I would like to have an Elvis on Tour extended release both are way over due. However I am afraid (I could be wrong) that the "This is Elvis" might be a mistake. I have not even heard of plans for it I have heard request for it though. Any one that knows for sure about "This is Elvis" coming out on DVD can you share that information with us please. Thanks in advance

I think there's a misunderstanding here. Turner is not working on a extended version of This Is Elvs, the will release The extended version of This Is Elvis. You know, there was a 90 minute version and a longer version at the time, with some little differense in the overal presentation (less overdubs of fake Elvis voice under real Elvis footage).

I wonder why Kid Galahad wasn't mentioned for either the original August release nor the new January date? I know that eventually we'll get all of them though.

Ok well I guess all we have right now is guesses we need to go to the regular site and see exactly what is coming out and I agree if This is Elvis is released why can't Elvis on tour in an extended DVD format also be released. Let's just hope it doesnt End up like the special Version of Elvis lives that was supposed to be released with the 68 special and Aloha from hawaii with all the never before seen footage they just had to take care of some copy right details and minor legalities yeah go try to buy it I believe what is coming out once it arrives at my door, to many times got my hopes up waited for months and post - poned which to them most of the time means dead or 5-10 yrs or should we say "The Twelth of Never"

Hello, I'm sure 'This Is Elvis' was either advertised or widely-reported to have been due for DVD release along with eg Jailhouse Rock, Speedway and Viva Las Vegas a year or so ago. It seems to have been ditched. But surely TIE has been made more-or-less obsolete by the Great Performances series? I have TIE on video and IMHO it really is a relic of the 80's now. Instead, I'd like to see half an hour or so of good 'Elvis In Concert' era footage re-edited and released on DVD, as well as an FTD CD release of all the overdubbed 50s/early 60s material which was released on the TIE soundtrack album and the I Was The One LP.

well its good news about 'this is elvis' but I think there wont be anything new from the extended 90 minute version released on VHS I like to be proved wrong though, T C B everyone

I agree that ELVIS on Tour is obviously left out of the re-issue set because of a proposed S.E. judging by the many people detailing the fantastic outtakes we didn't get it seems that their is much gold left within the 'On Tour' project to warrant a total make-over. Regards 'This Is Elvis' I feel this needs some work too, I don't think the video or cinema versions are good enough to put out 'as is' the footage discovered since these were created makes the original look poor, just check out the quality of suspicious minds and aloha material for starters and the Elvis story needs re-editing to include 'My Happiness'and many more discovered gems and interviews and not the corny voice-overs for greater historic significance!

I'm just greatful that there is still plenty of stuff to be released. But I would definately like to get my hands on a non pirated copy of "Charro", there is a character in it called "Tracy", and as this is my name I would just love to hear Elvis say it. In the copy that I've got I can hardly understand anything that anyone is saying!

don't know if anyone else saw it but back in january on british Tv there was an 'unedited/edited' version of 'This is Elvis' and in fantastic stereo! by 'unedited/edited' i mean it was about just over an hour long and had all the overdubs cut out such as the 'i had a hot launch..' and 'man she could raise the dead...' dialogue and you heard what was actually said! it was so funny. shame it was on at midnight though...

Well it's about time these DVD's were released. I've had to wait such a long time that I was wondering if they were ever planning on releasing these great movies. By the way "Kid Galahad" is Region 2. The U.S. needs Region 1. I hope Scott Heyward is right about "Live A Little, Love A Little". "This Is Elvis" would be fine if "Live A Little, Love A Little was already released but unfortunately hasn't been. I hope they are released before the end of the year. Because for EP fans these make great gifts for Christmas. I hope "Live A Little, Love A Little" would make the 6 instead of "This Is Elvis(extended version).
