This Is Elvis DVD Update

February 13, 2006 | Video
When we ran the update on a possible 2 DVD release of "This Is Elvis" we checked with Todd Morgan from Elvis Presley Enterprises for confirmation. His response:

"Andrew Solt and Warner Brothers are working toward the first DVD release of "This Is Elvis." EPE is not a partner in the project, we are simply cooperating with any EPE clearances that are required and will assist with promotion. A release date has not been set, but sometime in 2007 is a possibility.

I e-mailed Andrew about this story. He says it's mostly bull. He never had ownership in "This Is Elvis" or "John Lennon Inagine." He's not p.o.'ed about anything regarding either project. And while the Lennon DVD continues to sell well, the figure of 100,000 units per year is not correct - no where near correct."

I'm lost....Is there going to be a This Is Elvis DVD release in the U.S. or not?

It doesn't look good for the release of this film. What WOULD be better would be a proper Beatles-style "Anthology" comprising of a 10 or so DVD set. The trouble is, if they leave it much longer, most of Elvis' associates will sadly no longer be with us.

To be honest, I think This Is Elvis is overated. There were a couple of inaccuracies, one being when he came back from the army and the guy voicing Elvis said I'm glad the press didn't ask me about my Mother (which they did, I have the segment of interview which I think can be found on Rare Elvis vol.1) and they even overdub Elvis' voice in one part when he's joking to delete a rude word. The footage is nothing really we haven't seen on many other releases. Unless we get some wonderful extras, which judging by the latest offerings I'm not holding my breath.

There were two different versions of This Is Elvis released. One was a bootleg, which I liked a lot better than the one that was shown to the public.
