Former Beatles drummer Ringo Starr performed last week in the Grammy Museum, home of the Wertheimer photo expo. The almost 70-year old artist played his concert while wearing an Elvis shirt.

Thats really cool of Ringo! Way to go! Ive got a friend that is almost as big a Beatles fan as I am Elvis, cant wait to tell him this tomorrow! "I like alota the new groups, you know the Beatles n the Beards" (although am pretty sure El meant the Byrds, but they were brand new so he pronounced it Beards, lol)

Yes but the Beatles were NOT a new group at the time! Why wouldn't Ringo or anybody else for that matter were an Elvis shirt, there would be no Beatles without Elvis.

I Billion, I have also been intriqued by Elvis' reference to the The Byrds. I used t think it was just his accent, but I'm now convinced it was written down for him to say, and in all liklihood he had never heard of them, so didn't know how to pronounce their name! The Byrds were hardly new in 1968 - Mr. Tambourine Man had been a hit three years before!

My take on the Beards thing has always been it was said in jest referencing all the long haired groups of the day that came along after The Beatles. It was never a reference to The Byrds at all. The Beatles, The Beards, whoever, you know? Said totally with tongue in cheek.

DGirl, nah, no way. ELvis was narrating a script, a script clearly written for him by someone else. Beside he didnt pronounce it as 'beards' but as 'bear-ds' - which only in Oxbridge English is proniunced the same, certainly not in Southern Drawl.

I have a Che Guevara T shirt but it doesn't make me a Cuban revolutionary. Perhaps Richard "Don't call me Ringo" is an El fan which goes to show that even mediocre drummers like Elvis too.
