The Peabody To Honor "The King"

July 25, 2007 | Other
The Peabody will celebrate more than just its 82nd birthday at its annual Anniversary Party this year. The "South's Grand Hotel" will pay tribute to the "King of Rock 'n Roll" by inducting Elvis Presley into the Duck Walk Hall of Fame. Priscilla Presley will be the guest of honor at the event, which will take place Thursday, August 16, 4:45 p.m. – 6 p.m. in The Peabody’s Grand Lobby.

Belz Enterprises Chairman & CEO Jack Belz will posthumously induct the Elvis Presley into the Duck Walk Hall of Fame. Priscilla Presley will accept on behalf of Elvis. The center portion of the Grand Lobby will be cordoned-off for a private, invitation-only party, but the perimeter of the Lobby and Mezzanine will be open to the public.

“The Peabody’s Duck Walk Hall of Fame honors those who have played a pivotal role in the development of Memphis. And what better icon of Memphis is there than Elvis Presley? In many ways, he put Memphis on the map,” says Douglas V. Browne, General Manager, The Peabody Memphis.

The Duck Walk Hall of Fame began in 1996 with the induction Belz family patriarch Phillip Belz. Among the other 13 present honorees since are Jack Belz, Henry Turley, Danny Thomas, Mayor Willie Herenton, Kevin Kane, and Bernard Lansky. The commemorative plaques feature duck footprints along with the name of the inductee.

The Hall of Fame runs along Union Avenue and Second Street in the sidewalk outside The Peabody. Elvis Presley’s plaque will be placed in the sidewalk on Union Avenue, near Lansky’s “Clothier to the King” gift shop, in the weeks after the August 16th ceremony.

Well, let her have her fame; she struggled hard enough for it to become Mrs. Elvis A. Presley. After her divorce she then even got what she wanted: to be rich AND famous. And after Elvis`untimely death she even became rich AND famous AND all of sudden Mrs. Elvis A. Presley again. So - let her have it; I believe this is the way Elvis looks at it. And he is the chief.

This is truly an Honor. For those of you who have never visited the Peabody and seen the duck walk you dont know what your missing. This has been going on for about 75 years and every night its packs the house. In the lobby around the fountain on on to the elevator they follow each other (the ducks) just as elvis fans have followed him for the past 53 years. and the plaque near Lanskys is the icing on the cake. Next time your in Memphis make sure you see the duck walk its something you'll never forget. However i must warn you get there early...

Actually if you get there by 11 AM you will see the ducks marching out the elevator lead by the Duckmaster to the fountain, and 5pm the reverse led by the duck master back to the elevator to there duck house. Can you imagine elvis watching this when he visited Lanskys. this is a piece of Memphis History, and the king is now a permanant part of it.

I haven't met any saints in my lifetime, and I'm 47 years old!

Elvis was no saint but a human being and I love him so, cut the comments please. Priscilla was no saint. She didn't..'put Graceland where it is today'...that was her paid advisors. Like it or not, it is great that Jack Belz has not forgotten Elvis as so many have in Memphis. Elvis did attend his Humes graduation dance in the Peabody Hotel and there are Elvis fans in the Belz family. Nice of them to acknowlege the King of Rock and Roll.

I don't know how some of you call yourselves Elvis fans! If Elvis heard you say that about Lisa he would rip your g_ _ damn tounge out by the roots you son of a b _ _ _ _! quoted by him in one of is concerts! Anyways I think that this is a great honor to Elvis and he would be proud.

Ok, I must have missed it. What does Lisa Marie have to do with this article? She's not even mentioned in it. I am on a lot of Elvis sites but I have to say this one has the wierdest group I've ever seen!

i think your all a bunch of quacks and should follow the ducks into the fountain. However i will say the Priscilla face lift does make her lips look like as set of scution cups. and as far as lisa is concerned i cant wait to see her on tv again, maybe she will pick here nose instead of playing with her thumbs and feet. she is the princess of insecurity. Elvis was just a musician and should be kept in that light. off stage its nobodys business so i say Quack on you marching ducks.
