On November 11, 2013 Sony Music will release a brand new 20 track greatest hits album, entitled "The Nation’s Favourite Elvis Songs." This 20 track collection will feature some of the biggest hits and finest songs ever recorded and performed by the one and only king of Rock ‘n’ Roll. Hits spanning Elvis’ entire career are included with classic, memory evoking and unforgettable tracks such as "Suspicious Minds," "Love Me Tender," "Blue Suede Shoes," "The Wonder of You," "Heartbreak Hotel" and many more to be revealed. Just which Elvis songs will have made the cut?

Elvis forever changed the world both musically and culturally and is one of the single most important figures in 20th century popular music. He holds the record for "Most Hit Singles On The US Chart," "Most Top 10 Albums On The UK Chart" and still holds the record for the "Most No. 1 Singles in the UK" with 21 hits. His legacy and unforgettable style continues to shine and influence generations.

I like the random crediting of The Jordanaires. Pretty sure they are also featured on Hound Dog, Are You Lonesome Tonight, Crying In The Chapel, Teddy Bear, Don't Be Cruel.......and a bunch of others. I'm glad "Elvis Presley & The Jordanaires" are on "Surrender" Does that mean Elvis Presley is not on the other songs? Just weird....

More mess for the catalog,yay!

Why is Suspicious Minds & Are You Lonesome Tonight listed on both albums?
alanfalk wrote on August 20, 2013
I think the Suspisious Minds 2nd version is live and the 2nd Are you lonesome tonight are the Laughing version. I look more foreward to the show than to the album of course, but they are for the casual or new fans so that is all right.

I checked with the Official Charts Company today and they confirmed sales of both versions of the album will be added together for the charts. This is the best thing that has happened to Elvis in the UK in the past 6 years and long overdue. Should be a Top 10. If he does get Top 10 it will mark his 50th in the UK a feat which no other artist or group has achieved.

think A Big Hunk O' Love should have been on cd1,what no treat me nice or I Beg of you,as good as trilogy is and I love it,there some real hard rock songs that could have been put in the tv show that just aren't heard anymore and just maybe some curious non elvis fans might be watching and say to themselves 'hey that's good i'll give him a listen, you never know.Just think a big oppertunity lost.

Shame 'Little Sister' and 'Kentucky Rain' aren't in there.

F-ucking terrible idea again !!!.. Same songs, repackaged !!..... Still no , ELVIS FUNK ! with the best funkiest tunes like " Power of my Love" ...... lets face it, it will never happen !!

Another "hits" comp. I'll let the Brits make this a chart success. There is no reason I need (or want) this, whatsoever.

Whats this obesession about getting releases on the charts? I find it kinda cheap way to get on the charts and just clutters a already cluttered catalog.

Not that I am obsessed with Old Shep... But why ain't Old Shep on the tracklist?..
Gorse wrote on August 21, 2013
I can easily make 9 playlists/cd's of IMO 30 great songs so 43 tracks here will never suffice the fans on this board, As for the same tracks, well I see it this way that as a part time fan of the Rolling Stones I would only buy their new records with Paint it Black, Satisfaction, Brown Sugar, Get off My Cloud, Honky Tonk Woman and so forth to ensure my enjoyment. Half interested buyers will not be attracted by the magnificent Power of Love or Stranger in My Home Town, and nor will most here as they already have them. Yes throw in a few but most must be well known, sad but true.

The man's been dead since 1977 and here we go again with another quick scam to make a fast buck. The only difference is now the real fans from the 1950's on are all in there 60's and the younger generation really doesn't give a "rats ass" about another Elvis who? greatest release collection; greatest by whose choosing at random at best.

I think this will be a good programe if its done well and will put our man back in the public spotlight although it would have been nice to put some of the less commercial songs in the line up but we have to remember that it is geared towards the casual listener hence the title the nations favourite elvis song

I think a TV programme like this is a good idea. They make programmes about almost anything, so the King should get some programme too. Maybe some youngsters discover the King, others will be strengthened in their understanding of the deep influence Elvis had on popular music - and even today that influence can be sensed. Obviously the programme will focus on a wider public (see: CRichard is on it). And to release a CD at the 'same time' to widen the scope of it all is not a bad idea at all. Better than the random compilations of lately. For decades this has been done, re: all artists not only Elvis! Interesting that EPE news stated that about halfof the visitors were 30 years or younger! So obviously Elvis still has that appeal.

Well said Natha, and Regarding the young fans; I have mean woman blues as my ring tune when my wife calls, which she did about a week ago while I was standing in a crowded train, so my phone played the tune for about 20 sec. before I could answer it and when I hung up the phone again I heard a little girl (about 8 years old) saying with a thrilled voice "I feel like dancing like Elvis now". If not a fan, then at least this shows that Elvis is not unknown amongst young people. I will bet that a show like this will make new fans, or at least make a lot of people curious, in my eyes that is a succes. As a fan I am greatfull that there is so much focus on Elvis still, both from Sony, the bootlegers, epe , fanclubs and all the people who writes books, hell there are released so much good stuff that I can't afford to buy everything I want, THAT is pretty awesome for an entertainer that has been dead for 36 years !

Hello, the cover is a sub-karaoke horror show, and the sequencing of the tracks awful. Have you noticed the seamless flows from 'Heartbreak Hotel' to 'If I Can Dream', and from 'Way Down' to 'Surrender'? This is a backward step from the "75" compilation. Simply unbelievable.
Pieter wrote on August 21, 2013
On prime-time TV, I think it will be a commercial succes! The songs on CD one are probably chosen because footage of Elvis singing these songs exist. But what are they going to use for "It's Now or Never"? Elvis in Concert? Or will the songs be sung by others?

I may actually buy this....if its affordably priced and reasonable

How can you include rubbish like WOODEN HEART, GOOD LUCK CHARM & SHE'S NOT YOU and leave out all the classic SUN sides like MYSTERY TRAIN & BABY, LET'S PLAY HOUSE - my favorite track is IS IT SO STRANGE ?
little jimmy tompkin wrote on August 28, 2013
That laughing version of ARE YOU LONESOME TONIGHT is cr*p - when do we get to vote ?
Brian Quinn wrote on August 28, 2013
For Little Jimmy Tompkin. The records you mention as 'rubbish' were No.1 Hits and well liked by many fans. As great as they are, the Sun sides were not big hits - 'Mystery Train' reached No.25 in February, 1957. As far as the laughing version of 'Are You Lonesome Tonight' is concerned it is one of my very favourite Elvis tracks. An absolute gem and one that Elvis could never have repeated.
little jimmy tompkin wrote on August 29, 2013
BQ - The title is NATION'S FAVORITE ELVIS SONG not FAVORITE #1 - Are you saying you prefer WOODEN HEART to MYSTERY TRAIN ?
Gorse wrote on August 30, 2013
Hi little jimmy tompkin. I would never be so arrogant on this board and denounce other views and songs as crap. I love Hawaiian Sunset, How Can You Lose What You Never Had, Kismet, The Fool and so forth, and will probably be in a small minority with a couple of them. Wooden Heart and She's Not You are great tracks in my opinion and are well known for a release of this type. I think you would be very surprised and possibly disappointed with the diversity of choice if the members here selected their personal favourite 50 songs for an official release.
benny scott wrote on August 30, 2013
The mentioned 'rubbish' songs were No.1 indeed. And the reason why they became No.1 is because the nation considered them as 'favourites'. It's as simple as that. Little jimmy, nothing personal, but Brian is right, just my opinion. Always El.
little jimmy tompkin wrote on August 30, 2013
I don't think I'd be surprised or disappointed but I think we already know that THE WONDER OF YOU or SUSPICIOUS MINDS will come out on top - just my opinion ! How about putting SOLDIER BOY out as a charity single for HELP THE HEROES ?

SONY (UK) are going to give this their biggest push in a long time and are aiming for a Top 10. I hope fans will give this release their support.

The release date for this album has been brought forward to November 4th. This is likely to mean that the ITV Programme will air on 2nd November. However, this has not been confirmed.
