That's nice, but not for me. I have damn near everything the man recorded.
Very nice, but there are some titels missing. Also no Elvis in Concert 1977 because only titels during his lifetime.
But I buy this beautiful box anyway.
Let me start by saying that I'n glad this is being released for those who feel they need it/want it/ and/or can afford it. As for me I already own everything on this box set except a CD copy of "C'mon Everybody." This box set is the first time this LP has been released legally in the U.S. $350.00 USD is just a tad expensive for one CD and pretty packaging. I'll pass. I'm looking forward to the next batch of FTD releases. Whatever they may be.
I have the Legacy 30 CD set from five years ago. I will have to think twice before buying this new set. I don't understand why Elvis in Concert was excluded; aside from message from Elvis' dad, the LP was in the can when Elvis died.
I agree Jim, what a waste of Elvis in Concert !
I'm already comparing the look of the repro sleeves in the pic to the Japan paper sleeve collection issued a few years back. Not too keen on the white borders and got a feeling the sleeves will be flimsy with a gloss touch. Of course it's the music that matters but packaging is important too.
~ Strange how some albums are heavy with new bonus tracks, yet several albums will have no additional bonus tracks.
~ The little medley of "Dainty Little Moonbeams/Girls! Girls! Girls!" (finale) should be a bonus track on the
Girls! Girls! Girls! soundtrack album, not on the Let's Be Friends album.
~ The song "Wild In The Country" (flip side of the "I Feel So Bad" single) should be a bonus track
on Elvis' Golden Records Volume 3, not on Volume 4.
~ The song "It's Only Love" should be on the "Love Letters From Elvis" album as a bonus track to keep with the theme of the album title, not "The Sound of Your Cry".
~ They could have easily put "The Sound Of Your Cry" on the Elvis Now album instead of "It's Only Love".
~ The '72 live versions of "Blue Suede Shoes" and "Reconsider Baby" should have been included as bonus tracks on the Madison Square Garden album, or at least have "Reconsider Baby" included on the 70s Rarities disc.
~ The live recording "Little Mama" could've/should've been a track on the 50s Rarities disc.
~ I will not purchase this flawed & overpriced set.
I'll save my money for food, and a few more future FTD releases. ;-)
The '68 live version of "Trying To Get To You" originally included on "A Legendary Performer, Volume 1"
is no where to be found in this set.
I'm tempted! This surely looks nice. Even though there's nothing on here I don't already have! They even managed to include those singles not available on album during his lifetime. I like the idea of including those "important" Camden albums too. For the most of us in here, we may not need it. But, it's there if you want it! Still, I'm a fan of FTD too, and got hold of the soundtrack box, so......
Just to jump on the bandwagon of previous comments, why is "I'm A Roustabout" not included as a bonus track on the "Roustabout" Soundtrack?
This is a really tidy collection. I'll be buying. hope they do something similar with the albums released since his passing also. I would also love a similar package of all FTD albums.
Looks nice! The Dark Knight the white borders were on the original albums as well.
Pieter, in all honesty, some of the original 1950s U.S. albums gave the appearance of 3-sided white borders (left side, top & bottom). However, the "borders" were actually the wrap-arounds from the back cover which were done first in the manufacturing process, and then the front-cover photo sheet was glued/pasted (via the manufacturing process) to the front cardboard. The front cover sheet wasn't large enough to go all the way to the left side, top & bottom. Later on RCA realized that the albums would look better if they reversed the process by doing the fronts first with the photo sheet wrapping around to the back, and then the back cover sheets were put on. Go to elvisrecords.com and take a close look.
But regardless of all that, SONY chose to give these new mini CD covers the appearance of the originals.
~ EJF, I agree that "I'm A Roustabout" would've been more appropriate on the Roustabout disc.
~ Also, since they didn't acknowledge the 1977 album 'Welcome To My World' in this set, they should have at least included the previously unreleased live version of "I Can't Stop Loving You" on the 70s Rarities disc.
~ bajo, I do like that they included the singles not available on albums during his lifetime (as you mentioned).
The 'Clambake' album now looks better just by adding "Hi-Heel Sneakers" as a bonus track.
Just noticed on a closer look that the spines are bloody numbered ! I don't recall the original sleeves having that on them. Oh picky 'ole me !
For the sake of inventory, there are thirteen official RCA Elvis albums (USA)
released during his lifetime that are not represented in this new 'The Album Collection' box set.
1 (1970 Victor) ~ Worldwide 50 Gold Award Hits, Vol. 1 (All music tracks covered).
2 (1971 Victor) ~ The Other Sides: Worldwide Gold Award Hits, Vol. 2 (All music tracks covered).
3 (1970 Camden) ~ Elvis' Christmas Album (All music tracks covered).
4 (1971 Camden) ~ You'll Never Walk Alone (All music tracks covered).

6 (1972 Camden) ~ Burning Love and Hits From His Movies, Vol. 2 (All music tracks covered).
7 (1972 Camden) ~ Separate Ways (All music tracks covered).
8 (1974 Victor) ~ Having Fun with Elvis On Stage (A talking album only).
9 (1974 Victor) ~ A Legendary Performer, Volume 1 (Four music tracks not covered) . . .
. . . I Love You Because (alternate take), Love Me (live 1968), Trying To Get To You (live 1968),
. . . Are You Lonesome Tonight? (live 1968).
10 (1975 Victor) ~ Pure Gold (All music tracks covered).
11 (1976 Victor) ~ A Legendary Performer, Volume 2 (Three music tracks not covered) . . .
. . . I Want You, I Need You, I Love You (alternate take), Blue Suede Shoes (live 1968),
. . . Baby What You Want Me To Do (alternate live 1968).
12 (1976 Victor) ~ The Sun Sessions (One music track not covered) . . . I Love You Because (alternate)
13 (1977 Victor) ~ Welcome To My World (One music track not covered) . . .
. . . I Can't Stop Loving You (live 1972).
I think that this package will be quality and attention to detail but why girls girls girls bonus are not on that album? same for I'm a roustabout ... personally I would have included the EP Follow That Dream, Kid G, Viva LV, Easy come, rather than the 2 albums Cmon everybody and I got lucky, but everyone has their own ideas about a project like this. is still not far from perfect ...
I agree with you TheMemphisFan, not complete, what a waste.
~ I'm 100% okay with the other 13 albums not being included, but the least they could have (and should have) done is include the 8 missing recordings on the "Rarities" discs... I Love You Because (alternate take); I Want You, I Need You, I Love You (alternate take); Love Me (live '68); Trying To Get To You (live '68); Are You Lonesome Tonight? (live '68); Blue Suede Shoes (live '68); Baby What You Want Me To Do (alternate live '68); and I Can't Stop Loving You (live 1972)... with an explanation in the liner notes as to which albums they were originally included on. That would have been the right thing to do to make this project as complete as possible, and still limit it to 60 discs.
~ claunath82, since this is an "album" project, I'm also 100% okay with them using the Camden albums (C'mon Everybody & I Got Lucky) to cover the movie soundtrack EPs from the 1960s. After all, the purpose of those 1971 Camden albums was to cover the songs from the deleted EPs.
~ Another song that is out of place (in my opinion)... The studio recording of "For The Good Times" (posthumously released) would've been more appropriately placed on the '70s Rarities disc instead of on "ELVIS Fool" (1973). The song does not have a direct relation to the '73 "ELVIS Fool" album the way that some other posthumously released songs do with other albums (Danny with King Creole, I'm A Roustabout with Roustabout, Dainty Little Moonbeams/Girls!Girls!Girls! finale with Girls! Girls! Girls!, etc.)
~ As smart and knowledgeable as Ernst Jorgensen & Roger Semon seem to be... their ideas, reasoning, and actions are not always well-thought-out.
I give them credit where credit is due on many projects, but too often they just don't get things right.
I noticed another track that's debatable as to where it best belongs on this set. "Who Am I?" was the final song recorded in Memphis at American Sound Studio on February 22, 1969. Would it be more appropriate to have placed it as a bonus track at the end of the "From Memphis To Vegas/From Vegas To Memphis" disc, instead of the "Let's Be Friends" disc?
Perhaps there are a few reasons why it was placed on the new "Let's Be Friends" disc . . .
1. The new "From Memphis To Vegas/From Vegas To Memphis" disc already has 22 total tracks (as it did originally).
2. The original "Let's Be Friends" album had two American Sound Studio songs on it, so one more won't hurt.
3. "Who Am I?" was originally released on a Camden album ("You'll Never Walk Alone"), so now it remains on a Camden disc.
This looks like a lovely set but I admit I'd disappointed it's not the complete album collection. I have mixed feelings about the inclusion of "bonus songs" to the albums that weren't on the original releases. And why the "rarities" CDs? Why not instead have as many CDs as possible to include the songs not originally captures in the original album releases? They could be "single and EP songs" collections. There are probably not that many songs to include in such a bonus CD(s). I have the complete masters and have the perfect soundtrack box with the original song lineups (as well as the vast majority of single discs that are available on Cd) which will probably prevent me from buying this set. But I would have purchased it without hesitation if it was complete - including all of the Camdens, Legendary Performer, and even Having Fun with Elvis on Stage. Still it's a great set that I'll certainly consider as March gets closer.
~ LonElvis, I understand Sony's reasoning for wanting to limit this set to 60 discs for marketing purposes.
If only they had included the 8 missing recordings on the "Rarities" discs then that would've been the next best thing to having ALL albums represented. Hopefully (somewhere within the liner notes of the accompanying 300-page book) they will include a photo of the 13 albums not included in the set and explain that "most" of the recordings were covered on the other albums within the set. If they pretend that those 13 albums never existed (by excluding any mention of them) then that will be a total miss on their part.
~ As for the inclusion of "bonus songs" to the albums that weren't on the original releases --
All I would have expected is for them to be more consistent. It seems that they should've committed to one way or the other. Also, I personally don't like the fact that they included so many of Elvis' private home recordings (with inferior sound quality). However, it is indeed an attractive, eye-catching set!
Something for SONY (or the bootleggers) to consider in order to satisfy the wants & needs of all the completists in the Elvis World... issue a second volume to offer fans the remainder of the RCA albums!

Memphis - that 15 CD second box set is a great idea!
It would hopefully cost a lot less. Maybe they could include a 30-page booklet.
Does anyone know if this set is coming out on Vinyl as well?
No, FM, but I've heard rumors that it's coming out on 8-track tapes... as well.
TheMemphisFan, your soooooooo funny obviously you have no idea why vinyl is making a huge come back , outselling CD's by a 50 to 1 ratio, Elvis sounds better on vinyl NOT cd, I hope that Sony does put this set out on Vinyl for all audiophiles like me who want to hear the Elvis sound the way it's supposed to be not on those crappy cd's
C'mon FM, I understand the renewed popularity of vinyl, but a 60-Lp set would be way too expensive for most people to be able to afford. Have you checked the cost of just one FTD vinyl album? Each one is very expensive! I honestly wasn't sure if you were serious or joking with your question. Sorry if I offended you.
~ I apologize to anyone who thinks I'm obsessed with bashing this new set. That's really not the case.
It's a beautiful set, but it could've been done in a much more cohesive fashion. There's an easy and logical way that it could've been (and should've been) arranged to include sixty (60) original albums!

I've introduced people to Elvis by buying CDs as gifts but this is just too expensive. Just who would purchase this? Not a curious browser that's for sure. Most of these will end up being sold individually on e*bay etc anyway like other box sets have ended up.
circleG, this set is a little pricey, but it's less than half the price as The Complete Elvis Presley Masters set was, and it basically offers the exact same material... just arranged differently. If this set was offered in Lp vinyl format, as someone else mentioned, then we would be talking about some serious money... possibly somewhere around $1,000 would be my guess.
I'm asking myself if this is the way we should be heading. With CD sales on the rise, or so I've been told, and vinyl sales now in the millions should expensive projects like this be the way to get Elvis music in the hands of youngsters? The best CD s are deleted and very expensive as a result and shops bare of official vinyl product. If this isn't addressed then Elvis music is in danger of going out with us old rock n rollers.
Most all of Elvis' songs & CDs (including the best ones) are available via official downloads and are also available on Amazon and many other common websites. There's no danger in Elvis product ever "going out". The new box set isn't necessarily aimed at youngsters. It is simply being issued to celebrate 60 years of Elvis Presley albums and it's aimed at anyone interested.
(Too bad they didn't include "60 albums"... as they could have and should have.)
If you were thinking about purchasing this set I wouldn't order it through the Elvis Fan Club link below, it's way too expensive like everything they sell. I ordered mine from the Essential Elvis website it's seventy pounds cheaper, they always take care of the fans with great low prices.
Many years ago, i bought the Original Elvis Presley Collection and i was very happy with it because i didn't have my old vinyl albums anymore, because i wanted to replace them by cd's. Thus i had almost every Elvis album on CD now for a good price. Then the FTD label starts releasing the classic album series and FTD is still releasing those classic albums (love them). Years later the 30 cd box The Complete EP Masters came out. Now Sony released this 60 boxset. When does it stop? Although i think this is a beautiful box, i think that € 250,00 for music we all ready have is very expensive. I skipped this one.
