Tartan Tribute For The King

Lisa Marie Presley has reportedly commissioned an Edinburgh kiltmaker to create an official Elvis tartan. The daughter of the King of rock and roll came to the Capital last week. The 39-year-old songwriter has been looking into ways of strengthening Elvis's Scottish heritage, after it emerged his ancestors hailed from Aberdeenshire. She visited 21st Century Kilts on the Royal mile. After speaking to designer Howie Nicholsby, Lisa Marie learned she could claim the maiden name of Elvis's mother, Gladys Smith, for her tartan.

And of course there are still Presleys living in Huntly, between Elgin and Aberdeen.

Elvis' family history has apparently been traced to Lonmay in Aberdeenshire in the North East of Scotland. There are Presley roots in Lonmay in the 1700's, the parents of an Andrew Presley were married there in 1713 and Andrew Presley went on to become the first Presley to arrive in America (in North Carolina in 1745). The Family Tree has then been traced right up to Elvis' Parents marriage in 1933. The Elvis Aberdeen Fan Club attend an annual event each year in Lonmay to celebrate Elvis' roots there. Incidentally, there has already been a Presley Tartan made by a Kilt Maker in Aberdeen which is popular among Scottish Elvis Fans.

Did Gladys have any Scottish connection's, Smith is a very common name. As we all know Presley started out as Pressley. There is a Presley farm east of Inverness & a post office at Presley.
