It's always great to see Elvis in the mainstream. BUT what is bothersome is that EPE is supposed to make sure that Elvis' image is given respect and dignity and is remembered positively. Showing Elvis who was a fashion trend-setter and who was a classy dresser dipicted with white underarm deordorant on his clothes is tacky and tasteless. Elvis would never have left the house like this - nor should fans tolerate his image and memory given this treatment. This is no different than Goldman's book saying that Elvis' idea of a bath was a "quick wipe of the armpits and crotch." Of course Goldman wasn't a "LICENSEE." I think a Got Milk? ad featuring Elvis with a milk mustache would have been far more wholesome and appropriate. BUT when Got Milk? used an Elvis theme some years ago - they went with a series featuring Elvis Imitators with milk mustaches. Did EPE wanted too much $$ from the milk folks? Deodorant must have paid their price. Wise up...it's should all be about the man and the music...being bated with cheezy promotions and trinkets to keep the fans entertained is a joke.

Come on Jamie, this isn't REALLY damaging Elvis' image. nobody puts deodorant on the OUTSIDE of his or her clothes and no one with even half a brain is going to question the King's personal hygiene based on this ad campaign! This is showing Elvis as a trend setter and highly effective marketing tool! It's a great comment on who Elvis STILL is! I love anything that keeps him name and image out in front of the public. Pop culture has changed a lot over the past twenty-five years and for someone who has been gone that entire time to be such an integral part of the current pop culture is amazing. They picked a great picture and in no way disparaged his image. had they picked an unflattering picture and insinuated that he was dim enough to put deodorant on his clothes instead of his body I would be one of the first to complain. Yay for Sure recognizing the enduring and endearing King of Rock and letting us enjoy him in such a fun and harmless way.

Well said, TCB4JEP. your comments are right on the money.elvis had a wonderful sense of humour by all accounts, and so should his fans. lighten up, people. appreciate the fact that 27 years after elvis left the building for the last time, he is still so popular and so accepted by mainstream culture. a friend of mine, who i've been seeing for the past two months, had never really paid any attention to elvis. one listen to some of my elvis cd's and this person cannot believe how talented he was! she's now a fan ... it's about the music and the fun. forget these two things and nothing else matters. long live the king!! (:

I wholeheartedly agree with TCB4jep.This ad is really good for the Elvis image. The other icons chosen are Steve McQueen and James Dean, real cool dudes. This advertisement is actually saying that these 3 are real style icons with a wicked sense of humour. It has been wonderful to see all 3 on the sides of buses and on billboards, a great campaign for Elvis.Jamie, in order for it to about the man and the music, you have to rebuild the image for the public to take him seriously as someone who is cool and hip. I think EPE have mostly done a great job on the Elvis image over the last 5 years especially.

I agree with jamiecoyne - I don't like it either. And they didn't even print the picture the right way round.

i dont like this ad. elvis always presented himself as best he could. i think this is TACKY! some of my favorite pictures are when he was ready to go on stage. MMMMmmm! :) at least they didnt choose a photo where elvis was sweating. have you seen the photos of him in a regular shirt? (the guy could really sweat! :) what gets me, too, is steve mcqueen gets to drive a mustang in a commercial, and elvis gets a deodorant ad. give me a break! why not put elvis on a harley or use him in some more glamorous way? talk about ruining an image! (as the ad says)

"There is no such thing as bad publicity". Young people seeing such a beautiful picture of a young Elvis Presley will be getting some balance considering some of the worst jump-suit pictures they have been accustomed to seeing. 2004 - What a great year for Elvis in the media!! Nothing can stem the tide now:-)

Hello, I know this is a really old post, but I was just wondering what Chris C when he said "I agree with jamiecoyne - I don't like it either. And they didn't even print the picture the right way round." I couldn't find this same picture the other way round?
