Sunday Chart Update - Platinum For Elvis

September 28, 2008 | Video
Elvis The King of Rock 'n' Roll fell 5 places to #20 on this week's ARIA Music DVD Chart. However, after being at Gold status for many weeks it has finally been certified Platinum. Elvis The '68 Comeback Special is a re-entry on the chart at #40 (it is a former #1 music DVD on the chart).

Neither the Spankox remix single or remix album made the UK charts. The single didn't make it on the Top 75 singles, Top 100 download or airplay charts. Neither was featured on the Radio 1 or 2 Playlists. The single made #84 in the midweeks during the week commencing 8th September. However, it dropped out of the Top 200 before the end of the week. The album was released on 22nd. September and never made the Top 200.

Neither the single nor the album of Elvis vs Spankox is in the UK top 75 but I'm not surprised as there has been a total lack of promotion. I have not seen a single copy of anything on display in HMV, Tesco, Woolworths, etc. There was one copy of the album hidden amidst the other Elvis albums at HMV. I've not heard a single airplay (has anyone else?) and there appears to be no advertising. If these releases are expected to put Elvis back in the charts, then they need to appeal to more than the die-hard fans. The only way to do that is via some publicity.

The single had a few plays on BBC Radio 2 prior to its intended release. The single promotion however on the whole was a complete cock up. It was announced by HMV that there had been a delay in the release date even though I had received my copy off them a week prior to this. Some HMV shops had the single on display regardless of what they said in their press release and some HMV shops didn't! Woolies no longer sell singles as for the other chart shop outlets I cant comment.
