Stereo Soundboard Of The Last Concert

February 05, 2005 | Other
At least there is a tapebox that shows Elvis' last show in Indianapolis on June 26, 1977 is taped on a stereo soundboard. Hopefully the contents still exists too. If so, the tape, as shown on the FECC site, seems to contain parts of the Stamps performances and some parts of the introductions of the band are missing.

Updated February 8, 2005:

This tape box will be removed from our '' Memorabilia '' section. The story we've got about this was definitely possible as it matched some informations we already got or knew on this subject.

However after further investigation we came to the conclusion this is not the '' real '' tape box. A sound engineer evoqued the possibilty it could had been a '' safety copy '' because of the speed it was recorded, yet the signature at the bottom right of the box isn't from that person which says a lot by itself.

Elvis' last performance was definitely recorded and saw it from my own eyes. The set up was exactly the same as it was during the February '77 tour and the following tours from that year. I don't think this recording was erased and will eventually show up...there's always hope but the search continue.....

Not one of the best Elvis show, by far, but "historically" this is of course, a VERY valuable recording. This discovery is quite surprising, so I hope the label is not a fake to fool fans, and that we will have the pleasure to hear this piece of History soon, in good audio quality at last. Crossing my fingers...

god i hope this is true and a real elvis fan would market it and not bmg. cuz bmg and epe will keep it from us fans. just like his last tv special they are keeping from the fans. if the fans want it u gotta give it to them. elvis always gave us what we wanted so why cant they be the same.

what's it gonna take for EPE te release "Elvis in Concert" on to dvd. they are sitting on 3-4 hours of footage and i am tired of buying vhf quality with bad pic and sound. i know i know he was in bad shape physically but for the most part his voice was still there. the shot of him playing piano to "unchained melody" still gives me chills to this day. RELEASE THE CONCERT!
Viva wrote on February 05, 2005
This sounds like superb FTD material to me. If this is genuine, then forget it ever being available to the general public, which I quite agree with. Come on BMG, give it to the fans. For christ's sake don't tell EPE, they'll burn it.

This Show is ESSENTIAL... essential like the recordings of "My Happiness" and "That's When Your Heartaches Begin"! Please release it as soon as possible!!

Over the hill my arse..he did'nt look great, but his performance was one of the better shows from 77, he seemed to rise to the occasion and i for one would like to hear it in soundboard quality.

This is an essential recording, not because it's a great overall performance (it isn't), but because it is a crucial part of the Elvis story. When listening to this show the predominant thought in my mind is always "My god, six weeks later he was gone" It really reminds you of the mortality of the man, that he could never, physically, live forever. As with all Elvis' later concerts there are all kinds of emotions to be experienced: Excitement, embarrassment, boredom, sadness, happiness, but there are always one or two moments when he sings a certain song and you are left dumbstruck by his brilliance. If this show is available to release then it must be released asap. His last show, whilst not his best, is vitally important. The last time Elvis Presleys voice was ever recorded is as important and historic as the very first time his voice was recorded, it gives us a beginning and an end; and an end which, in some ways, is more earth shattering than the beginning.

Elvis was NOT over the hill when he did this historical his final concert. He only went over the hill and into peace in the valley 6 weeks later. This Show must be released.

all those years ago, where have the years gone. it only seems like yesterday. how many albums would we have now if elvis was still alive. singing country or would he be retired. i hope retired. he would have given us everything were else could he have gone. dreams and only dreams . miss him and his great music. remember back buying the singles and albums when they came out and the smell of the cover and the record. sweet memories. parents, relations and friends all were alive then where did they go lord, oh where did they gooooooooo.

I'm not getting all excited just yet. One: We don't know if the box is genuine. Two: If it is, where is the tape? and, three: After all these years what condition is the tape in.

I would love to see this released (to fans as previously suggested). For someone like me who never saw him live (being only 5 when he passed away), any opportunity to see or hear him in concert is welcomed, especially something as special as his last ever recorded performance. By the way, he was never over the hill in my opinion.

It deserves to be released in 'Stereo' and still remains the best concert from the last tour and a 'solid' performance throughout.. would be a great comeback 'live' release after a self imposed 'ban' on 'live' releases for 6 months!

Alot of Elvis fans would love to hear this. I just hope there telling the truth. I dont think Elvis was crap and over the hill on my cd of Elvis in concert. I think he sounded great. I remember when I first heard that on a tape and I was suprised to hear how good Elvis sounded. And when are we going to get Elvis on Tour on dvd ? And what about a proper special edition of TTWII

Yeah? Well I think it's one of Elvis' finest recordings... For example, he sinds the best version of 'Hurt' I have ever heard. He's very much able to reach and sustain that crazily high note at the end of the song. I also like other sonds from this show.. You Gave Me A Mountain, It's Now Or Never.. And just think about those pretty good versions of Release Me, I Can't Stop Loving You and Bridge Over Troubled Water. It's true that his physical shape wasn't as good as it had been before - but the truth is that his voice has become more mature, opera-like. His voice sounds very warm and soft, and Elvis surprises with both pretty low bass-like notes and very high tenor-like notes. If you ask me, Elvis' voice was better in June 1977 than it had ever been before - and this concert from June the 26nd was the best of the entire tour. It would be a pity if we were to miss this concert on soundboard!! Please release it, BMG! Even though it may not be entirely complete (we'll miss some parts of the introductions - I for instance very much like the jazzy part where Elvis reaches a very high and crystal-clear sounding note), it still portrays that Elvis could still send Led Zeppelin home with the power of his voice, even in the last few months of his life. If you ask me, George W. Bush is trying to become as beloved as Elvis was and still is, but I don't think he'll ever succeed in doing that - because Elvis really meant something to a lot of people because of his virtus and charming voice.

Yes this should definitely be released. It is a much better concert than either Rapid City or Omaha and the fans' reaction is very postive. Elvis doesn't slur, he's in great voice and he even hits the high note on Bridge Over Troubled Water - something he'd had great difficulty with during the previous couple of years. This is a piece of history - not just for Elvis fans but for all lovers of popular music. If any concert should be released then it is this one - an absolute must. King regards

I'd love to at least have this show on an FTD record in a higher sound quality. What a promise it makes! It looks like Elvis gave everything that was left in him for that final show. He really fought 'till the end. Listening to his final show you can't help but think that he was aware somehow that this might be the last one... I know he must have thought about it many times in the previous months at the end of previous tours as he knew in what shape he was and I know he was on his way to try to do his best tour "ever" the day he died but facts are facts : that one in Indianapolis was the final step and then they brought the curtain down. The difference is that, compared to Rapid City or Omaha, he did manage to do well : he sang well, reached high notes, put a lot of energy into the show. Those who have seen Elvis after he left the stage all agree : he looked terribly exhausted. Just like someone who gave his very best no matter what.

The is a new DVD called "Adios" containing the 8mm footage of the Indianapolis show in the best quality I have ever seen it. Several film sources have been used to compile this 50 minute version which has matching sound. The DVD also contains the footage taken with Todd Slaughter at the airport and a nice montage of photographs put together with "Pieces of My Life" on the soundtrack. I paid £20.00 for mine on ebay.

The fans need to put more pressure on EPE to get the Indy concert released! I have heard the entire concert soundboard recording, remastered, and it sounds GREAT! There is tons of material out there that the fans have a right to, but action needs to be taken to get the ball rolling. Let's do it!
