Sid Shaw Gets #1 On Behalf Of All Elvis Fans

January 21, 2005 | People
An Elvis fan from Radlett was this week presented with The King's official award for getting the 1,000th number one in UK history. Sid Shaw, owner of Elvisly Yours, received the gift by The Official Charts Company and Coca-Cola at a presentation at his store on Sunday.

Sid Shaw said: "The #1 should have been reserved for him - he is so far ahead of everyone else in the pop world even years on from his death. "Most of the songs in the charts nowadays are just repetitive rubbish, but Elvis is in a different league. His appeal is everlasting, his music never dates."

Update:

Sid Shaw informed us that the Award was presented to all British Elvis fans. The UK Charts Company and its sponsor Coca Cola asked whether they could use his shop for a photo call because of all the great images of Elvis and my life size, bronze Elvisly Yours Statue. He was told I would be able to display the Trophy in his shop for fans to see sometime in the future, but he doos not have the trophy and expects it is being used for PR.

why don't you tell sid shaw to go for a long walk in the siberian range without a compass? that man has no right to have his name stated along with the king's name

I agree Pareto, what has toadboy ever done for Elvis except put out a load of tatty memoribilia, all of which advertises his shop, that most genuine fans would leave on the shelf. It would have been far better if the award had been given to one of the smaller fan club who have helped to keep elviss name alive through the years & who offer genuine support.

But WHY does he get an award? Why not Shakin Stevens then he's got more to do with Elvis then Shit Shaw:-)

You're right Elvos! I'm sure Shaky would be proud to receive this award. After all he was the best 'Elvis' after Elvis!

The fact that Sid Shaw is receiving this award says a lot about the musical knowledge of The Official Charts Company and Coca-Cola. Yet another example of how this great achievement has been relegated to that of a big joke. As for Shakin' Stevens, you must be kidding right? an impersonator is an impersonator and therefore an embarrassment. The award should have been presented to someone at BMG who had a hand in crafting the idea for the releases in the first place. Of course, someone from EPE should have had it really, but they'd probably want a fortune for turning up.

Have you noticed the plaque says "I got stung/One night" & not "One night/I got Stung" ?

He Viva! Shaky an Elvis impersonater?? Mmmhh, still living in the early 1980's ha! I think Shaky proved that he was a classic rock and roll of his own, and that he filled the emptyness in rock and roll world after Elvis died. He sold more records in the Uk in the 1980's than any other artist, so a bit more respect please!! Thanks!

Elvis Presley's One Night went to No.1 and became the landmark 1,000 British Hit Single and the Award goes to Shit Shaw. What the shid is happening? What a joke!!!

Shakingruud: I think we'll have to agree to differ on that one. The fact remains that Sid Shite shouldn't have ben anywhere near this award.
