Reclaiming The Crown

January 23, 2007 | Music
More 1969 material on bootleg that is already out can be found on a new 6 CD box set "Reclaiming The Crown". It features the American Sound Studio sessions from Jan. 13- Feb. 22. 1969. The sound is supposed to be very good, more information follows.

Sounds very promising. It won't probably contain any new interesting material, but a 6 (six) disc set with what must be the complete studio sessions is a must have in my collection anyway. I'm curious about the tracklist.

Already started with American Way and that artwork looks great. This seems to be a quick sloppy job, at least not very original.

American Sound is pretty much "up to date"; wonder if it has to do with their touring around this year; I already got my ticket saved for Soest in Germany where they we be live in concert end of March this year.

Hubert, I haven't read up on this set yet (I've heard there are some misgivings) but I can unconditionally recommend the terrific releases from "Southern Comfort": "The American Way, Volume One, and Two also looks like a keeper. The presentation (booklet, etc.) is a knockout, let alone the sound.

I've just received the box. These are genuine silver CDs, no CD-Rs! Sound is great. But a first look at the track-listing made me wonder. The "In The Ghetto" session is NOT complete. Despite the fact that it is already completly available on "American Ways Vol. 1". Several other sessions are also more or less incomplete. So this box seem to be a collection of what is available on old bootlegs. The box is definitely not as complete as "American Ways" will be.

I've listened to it now. As I figured..many gaps in the sessions, many differend sounds and loudness-levels. Just craped together from other sources. Stick with your "American Ways" collection.

so, whats else it new. I need to spend all my money, make more i want to go broke having every song 1000 times each. (at least thats what BMG wants)

Well, Mystery Train, if you're not a fanatical completist, into hearing (and owning) all the outtakes ("alternates") and complete sessions, then you might just have found the wrong site. I know most fans are happy with "just" the masters but most hard-core fans love having all this stuff. That said, the "Southern Comfort" label releases of the '69 Memphis sessions are going to be the import to beat. By the way, the title is "The American Way," that's with no "s." I will say this the cover of this "Reclaiming the Crown" set looks very impressive.

It's a beautiful but strange box 'cause the outtakes are with very pure sound but the masters are worst than ever...
