Reactions On The New Edition Of TTWII

August 14, 2000 | Music
To start with: the rehearsals are simply outstanding. They added Little Sister and Get Back, very well edited. The touch of the whole thing is extremely up to date and modern. Elvis is telling stories, you can see the guys having a break and eating hamburgers. Then the proceed with the rehearsals. No disturbing interviews and so. Just Elvis and his band.

Biggest surprise was Santa Claus Is Back in Town. Here he is shown with his band, the Sweets and the Imperials in one of the conference rooms at the International Hotel. Great stuff. The sound here is by the way much better than on the Boxset.

New stuff is also a rehearsal of Words in the red shirt on the Showroom stage. Great stuff, too. Then you see the people coming into the showroom and Elvis reading the good wishes cards from his friends (same stuff as in This is Elvis, but slightly worse quality, at least in the cinema. Omitted from the original movie are rehearsals of I Just Can't Help Believin' and Polk Salad Annie.

The show is simply great and shows a powerful appearance by Elvis and his band as never before seen. New songs are I Got a Woman, I Can't Stop Loving You, a completely new version of Love Me Tender with Elvis walking thru the audience. You Don't Have to Say You Love Me and Suspicious Minds are also new versions sensationally done. Also Elvis is clowning and kissing his way around and the whole film is fantastically cut and edited. The Dolby Sound is simply orgasmic!!!!

Unfortunately cut from the original movie are live versions of I Just Can't Help Believin', Sweet Caroline and I've Lost You. Maybe they will make it into the final version of the new movie.
