Rare Elvis Vol.5 - Celluloid Treasures

May 29, 2010 | Music

In the series are we really needing this (aka making a quick buck out of stupid fans)  Rare Elvis Vol.5 - Celluloid Treasures  focuses on, as the title suggests, Elvis´ movie career, from the 50s thru the 60s. Among the 25 tracks on this Silver pressed CD, there are many highlights, tracks that are rarely available elsewhere.

One of the tracks, Roustabout, has been a recent news item in ElvisWorld as this is a very rare outtake, that sold lately for a little over 1,100 $US on ebay, and was only available on the ´Memphis Tennessee´ 1982 bootleg LP but.... in incorrect speed. Now on this CD you'll hear it as it was recorded, in the best ever sound quality.

Other highlights includes the complete version (with intro and extra verse!!) of I've Got To Find My Baby´, never released on CD before, and a stunning unreleased harmony version of ´Could I Fall In Love', the undubbed master of ´There's Gold In The Mountains´, the much sought after ´Love Me Tender´ stereo version, hilarious outtakes of both ´Shake That Tambourine´ and ´Britches´ and more, including 4 unrelease tracks for the first time available on CD. The CD comes in a jewel case with 4- page booklet packed with lots of great and rare pics!  Limited edition of 500 copies.

Great news kiddies. The next installment vol 6 will be released shortly. titled Elvis For Idiots & Boobs Who Like To Waste Their Money. Boycott these crap so they will cease to exist. What's wrong with you people. I'm embarrased to tell anyone I'm an Elvis fan. Too bad Who Needs Money (undubbed, alternate, hiliybilly version with or without strings ( no one really cares cause either way they have to have it) at the uncorrected speedy version isn't available. Who Needs Money ...the dummies who buy this POS! That's who.

In the world of Elvis imports debates always go on about good, bad and ugly side of releases and to be honest it'a always up to the individual/fan/casual buyer if they buy certain cd's so no surprised really to see the same people moaning and groaning about releases??......for God sake what do you people actually buy??.....i know fans don't have to buy everything that's comes out but give people there own choice if they want to buy and stop slating imports......of course i realize you have everything Elvis done and feel these 'waste of money' releasese are not for you.....but for me as a fan it may be of some interest even if the contents are familar to me and at £12 i don't feel i am 'stupid' with my money and my time.. The last release was at least a factory pressed cd and not a crappy cd-r and came with all the trimmings of a official release so have to give them credit for work done on that release and content was excellent so again a worthty effort even if material has been around for some time?........there's a lot import cds out there that fall into the badly done bracket, but again let the fan decide and not your 'UNWANTED SAME OLD COMMENTS' that you seem to say on everything Elvis. Wait till you see what's on future volumes.....oh yea of course you have everything???.

little advice: read the review. check the contents and decide for yourself. Opinions of another are those of another. There are so many different fans, old ones new ones, those who want everything up to those who are selective. Different people will never agree.Let's hope for some respect though. No need to call names. That should be a stronger guideline here.Or at least that is my wish, not a demand

The Stones just released 'Exile on Main St' in an updated CD version. You're right. Ive decided to spend my money on that rather than this. I thinks its 'slightly' better.

DrJohnCarpenter,marco31768 and commoneverybody i fully agree one 100% with you guys and don't mind Oldscudder he makes it his hobby to humiliate elvis-fans, and whats the remark ''stupid" elvis fans needed for?, i also have this release and it looks and sounds real nice so i'm with you commoneverybody

Natha's posting :very wise words from a very wise man !!! Do also agree with Jesse, Marco and Dr. John !!! Oldscudder : is it possible to use a less agressive language in the future ? Think a lot of members would appreciate . Natha : I saw there's a personal message in my mailbox . I'll answer it tomorrow, right now have to leave for the rest of the day and evening. Kind regards ! Always El.

Commoneverybody : I have to agree with you that the first lines of the review ( don't know who wrote them, it's not mentioned) were not very flattering, but I also have to admit that further on there positive things are written about this release ( " many highlights, rare avilable tracks, lots of great pics in the booklet, " etc..) So don't take it too personal and enjoy this release. Know what ? I ordered it myself and I don't care if I'm regarded as being "stupid". Always El.

This is not only disheartening, it's downright sick. And the Old Scudder is having his field day referring to certain Elvis fans as idiots & stupid. What gives him the right! And why does Elvisnews allow it? Just because someone doesn't share your "sophisticated" point of view doesn't make him/her stupid or an idiot. Like I have said before, statements like that remind me of someone who is a legend in his own mind. Only this time it's worse. Very mean spirited. Obviously, not a very happy person.

you always want the last word huh? and trying to be funny too, you really need to be quiet OldScudder so you think you can call us anything you like? now that is sick i'm 100% behind you Ruthie i could not have said it better myself and to OldScudder you don't have any rights to call us names The first amendment gives you the right? don't make me laugh
Steve V wrote on May 31, 2010
Hmm well maybe not on this topic but on some other ones (just read the comments on the Rolling Stone songs poll), the oldscudder is not far from reality. The stuff I read on here by supposedly intelligent adult people is quite scary.
Jesse Garon Presley wrote on May 31, 2010
why am i not surprised? Steve defending his buddy Scudder , so calling Elvis fans names for buying a cd is intelligent? this is a cd-release for which everyone can decide for themselves to buy it or not,but calling people names for doing so is not a intelligent reaction it's a disgrace and calling himself a elvis fan is even a bigger disgrace , so you think that people buying this cd and defending themselves whenever somebody like scudder makes them out for idiots or even worse for buying this cd are no adults? downright absurd take a look at yourself please
Natha wrote on June 01, 2010
Please let it rest. If calling names is normal, than let's rather be stupid!
dgirl wrote on June 01, 2010
Naming yourself after Evis' dead twin brother and you have the right to make fun of other people? I find that as disturbing as anything scuddder may say and rather odd and eerie.
drjohncarpenter0117 wrote on June 01, 2010
Have i got things wrong or is being a Elvis fan on this forum a way of rubbing people up the wrong way?. Where is the love and respect for all things Elvis gone and why can well respecetd fans young, old just voice a opinion on the subject matter and not aim it at certain people. As a Elvis fan/collector for me the joy of buying a piece of vinyl, latest import cd and tracking down the rarer ones from the past is what i have been doing now for many years and of course some of the things brought in the past may not be everyones choice but i certainly would not knock any fan for buying items they wanted. Each fan is different and show there love of Elvis in different ways. Let's get back to 'normal service' before we all find this fantastic web-site calling it a day because of 'Negative comments ' not only on fans but Elvis as well.
Jesse Garon Presley wrote on June 01, 2010
just to let you know dgirl giving me that name has nothing to with disrespect for elvis i had nothing against you,but that changed every reaction i placed on this website was always with respect for Elvis, what is so disturbing about my name ?is it not out for disrespect for Elvis, i respect life very much certainly after my accident i had a few years back and just bareley survived , don't u ever accuse me of something Dgirl of which i'm not guilty of. i'm quiting my membership here with elvisnews this is has gone far enough, and keep your comments to yourself Dgirl please
Jesse Garon Presley wrote on June 01, 2010
and i did not make fun of other people where did you get that from? come on
Jesse Garon Presley wrote on June 01, 2010
I changed my nickname immediately it makes no sense accusing me of something that makes even more no sense at all so jesse is not my screenname anymore it is now the above, if i offended people with my former screenname then i'm sorry but dgirl was the only one to fall over this and i'm a member since 2008 this was the first time ever and i'm sorry that i defend members here on this website, since when is that wrong doing?
benny scott wrote on June 01, 2010
Hello dgirl. Am I missing something here? Could it be there is some misunderstanding about Aaron ? Correct me if i'm wrong, but Aaron making fun of somebody ??? As far as i can track down there hasn't been such a thing in the past . As for his screenname : could be very well meant as a sign of respect and adoration for Our Man. This is nothing personal, just asking for some explanation and, if possible, an example of what you mean ? Always El. P.S. Agree with DrJohn, about collecting ! The goal of many among us ( and I am one of them, being a singer myself and having recorded in studio's many times ) is not to collect EVERYTHING, but searching for rarities, alternate takes, etc.. Nothing wrong with that, and one has not to be called stupid or idiot for purchasing such releases.
dgirl wrote on June 01, 2010
OK OK, maybe 'making fun' was a poor choice of words. But putting someone down because he states things against the tide of most fans on this site is not correct either. Scudder is correct when he says the 1st amendment gives him the right to say whatever he wants. At least in the USA it does. The way he says it may be a bit crude and negative, but this release is sort of a joke, (hillbilly overdub)? But hey this is a fanatical Elvis site and sometimes many other less fanatical fans call a release the way they see it much like The Man & His Music reviews do. Name calling is wrong and maybe scudder meant to say it is a stupid release as opposed to stupid fans, I dont know, I'm not in his head. But yeah I think a release like this is a joke and can't really see the value of it unless a fan has to have everything out there. And Aron if I offended you, I apologize. I'm upset by the oil spill in the Gulf and sort of in a bad mood lately. Elvis matters are trivial.
benny scott wrote on June 01, 2010
Hi dgirl, this is a great posting from you ! I'm sure, and hope , Aaron will appreciate your writing . Aaron : dgirl is, IMHO, a honest and correct girl. What about a "virtual" handshake between the two of you ? As far as Scudder is concerned : you're probably right that in the USA there are other "rules" than in Europe. Still, would be nice if he could choose a more moderate language, but maybe he meant this release was stupid . I have to admit that, per example ,"hilbilly vocal overdub" is indeed not so cleverly expressed . Peronally I do not want everything that's released, but I'm a "fan" of alternate takes, so I'll have a go for it. And last but not least : I find it very very bad what happened in the Gulf. Hoping Mother Nature will, in the end, overcom this drama caused by humans. Wishing you the best, dgirl ! Always El.
dgirl wrote on June 01, 2010
Thanks Benny. You must remember in this country you can turn on the nightly news and hear people call the President of the USA a baffoon and it is quite accepted because of our 1st amendment. So you see, we are used to it, LOL Im sure scudder is a decent guy and meant no harm. I do know us long time fans are disturbed by a lot of what we see in the Elvis world, especially since the 90s.
Loesje wrote on June 01, 2010

theoldscudder wrote on June 01, 2010
What did I create here? I was really putting down this release & the people that make money off of it. I was parodying the Elvis Sings For Grownups & Children Lp title from years ago. RCA was ripping off the fans , & now bootleggers are. If you choose to but this i don't really consider you a boob. I do feel you are wasting your money & I comment on it with my own slant. Having said that it's your money so if Shake Your Tamborine spliced take break up version floats your boat go for it.
Jesse Garon Presley wrote on June 01, 2010
BennyScott thank your for your comment i really apreciate that indeed my screenname was indeed meant as a sign of respect and adoration for Our Man and no i never make fun of people on this website yesterday i also had a bad day due to the fact that my mother is in the hospital for 12 weeks now, so Dgirl al is forgiven and forgotten so yeah a virtual handshake between us sounds great thank you for the suggestion ; ) Bennyscott dgirl i also understand you better now we never had problems before i'm glad we are ok now again, probably scudder meant no harm but like benny is saying choose a more moderate language to avoid misunderstanding, i'm from Holland btw and if you all don't mind i'm changing my name to Jesse again, also this release is not meant as joke i take whatever i can get i'm also fan of alternate takes and trying to build up my collection again after it was stolen from me so again sorry to dgirl and i agree with your reaction and your apologie is accepted so yeah loesje let's move on certainly amen to that

oldscudder you're right. I can't understand why fans tet them ripp of. And why are the same people who's like this kind of worthless releases. Or are they the makers of the cd. But back to this garbage ( sorry i can't help it). Even the cover is done by somebody who's knows nothing about graphic design. If you look good , Elvis face looks like a pineapple. His face is more yellow and orange. That means they used not the right colors setting for printing. All the tracks are wellknown and you can make this compilation on your own cd. But theres always complianings about ,cheap releases ect, ect. And when somebody says that he doesn't like it. O the h..ll is coming out of the sky. But i can't understand why do you buy it. This label has only cd-r releases and now they have (your) money to release a silver disc. If you like it it's your own right,But don't make these maker rich. And Jesse garon best wishes to your mother. I hope she will be better soon

Jesse Garon Presley, sincere best wishes to you and your family and hope all goes well with your Mum.......and by the way glad you have gone back to your original name.....and all your comments on this forum are always welcome. Japio, i wonder how many imports you have in your collection?.......and where do you think your money has gone when you brought these?.....straight into the pockets of the people behind them. The issue of quality of covers and factory pressed disc's/cd-r's will always be a talking point......good,bad,etc,etc but it's what you expect from bootlegs/imports.As for track listings there have been many bootlegs/imports over the years that have recyled material from other albums/cds again if you know your stuff you know the albums/cds that have done this and continue to do so.the point of issue here has been the 'stupid fans' comments and has not really been about the cd itself. We all know the material on this cd has done the rounds many times and to some fans buying a cd with material you already have may seem to be a waste of money.....but again how many times have we brought a RCA/SONY?BMG album/cd with tracks on we have had a zillion times?.......this cd will have limited release and will dissapear as quick as it has arrived so i don't think they will make that much out of it.....after all your local dealer has to make something too?........i dread to see the feedback on the next couple of releases due soon from this label.Respect to you as a fan and valued contributor to this forum.

Totally agree John!! Mr wiseguy who knows so much about graphics and knocks down every single release these guys bring out, makes his opinion, as always, looking at a promotional picture placed on a website. How good can that be....always the same comments, but let me tell you one thing.. i´m one of this stupid fans that bought this CD and i must admit, the sound quality is very good and the artwork looks also good to me ( his head does look just like it always did ), but i´m not an expert. It looks and sounds excellent, thats whats counts to me.
benny scott wrote on June 02, 2010
drjohn & common : couldn't agree more! If some people consider me as being stupid for buying this release ( I have a good reason why I did ! ), well, so be it. My opinion : less stupid buying this cd than some comments are on this topic.Always El.
Jesse Garon Presley wrote on June 02, 2010
much appreciated DrJohn i also fully agree with your comment and that goes for Common en Benny too : ) very good statements, i also have this cd release and i'm happy to have it if i may say so, looks nice standing on the shelf ( always do that when i get a new cd) indeed the sound of this cd is very good, yes if people think we are stupid for buying this cd so be it,i don't care, and i'm glad too dr.john to have my former screenname back again also
japio wrote on June 02, 2010
making a cd costs 80 cents ,incluidng 8 page booklet. And i have made many fanclub cd's, and i worknig for a small company. And about the color. It makes no diffrence if it placed on a website, it depends on wich dpi's you'll have it and in what kind of color setting, This one is in RGB and that's not the good color code. Also starnge is GITM- undubbed. It's tsrange because Elvis recorded his vocals on pre-recorded backing track, and overdubs hasn't been made. it's only one channel use and panned to the mid.I also don't compalin about the songs. But about fast making money release as this. If want to buy it, it your own right. If you collect these cd's,not for me to critise about that But I Never said your stupid. And i will never do.
commoneverybody wrote on June 02, 2010
instead of letting everyone know how fantastic you are with graphics perhaps you should try to teach some English lessons......
japio wrote on June 02, 2010
what's wrong with you common. I give my opinion. It's looks like you made this cd. Or am i wrong???. Is that englisch enough. If you have problems with the fact that some people don't like this kind of releases. if you have a problem with me send me a mail. and i will tell in dutch language what i think about this CRAP. Never heard of freedom of speech?? if you like it or not, i have the right to say that. And look for example to the new victoria label. Look there cover are great.Sharp pictures and very colorfull. that kind of releases are great. Not this one. It's time to come with real new material.
Van Basten wrote on June 05, 2010
It's time to come with real new material. Isnt that what this series originally was all about? To make a collection with RARE tracks (mmm.. maybe that is why it is called RARE ELVIS) The original series (volume 1,2 and 3) didnt have anything NEW on it, but for fans who dont have a chance to buy everything, a nice way to get a cd with a lot of rare stuff on it. I just got it today, and have to agree.... THERESGOLDINTHEMOUNTAINS is NOT an undubbed master... they just used one channel, but that was also the fact on the earlier release, and this sounds much better I never heard the COULDIFALLINLOVE harmony track though, and this sounds much better then the master! (less hiss) It is also nice to have ROUSTABOUT in better sound, and correct speed. All in all a nice compilation, but for fans who want new stuff... dont buy it. It is as easy as that... no need to be hostile on fellow fans... cmon real fans dont piss on eachother!

Randy. What you wrote about the tapes is completley wrong , and cant compare with these CRAP. It comes from somebody with too much free time and ripps us off. I don't say the songs are CRAP. No this cd. Whe we keep buying this , he will comes with Rare Elvis 5 to 50 or more. And only with the same "borrowed tracks"
