Quickpoll

June 08, 2007 | Other
For our last quickpoll we wanted to know your expectations on the upcoming "Tupelo's Own" release. We asked you if you thought it could be an essential release. From the 228 voters 78 percent thought it could be an essential Elvis release, 22% had a different opinion or did not want to make a choice before actually having this set in their hands. We expect to review this set any day, and keep an eye on our quizzes, you might just see it pop up there too :-)

For our new poll we want your opinion on Elvis Presley Enterprises' merchandising policy. As most fans know by now, EPE agreed to host an international Impersonators Contest. That ‘news’ was not really what most fans were waiting for, to put it mildly. But EPE is taking things another step down the line, by releasing this a karaoke DVD set. Baseline of the publicity campaign is: “Have Elvis in your living room!”. The instrumental tracks however, are poor quality and don’t do the original songs justice. Further more, most ‘tracks’ have vocals to it, provided by an Elvis sound-alike. Although Elvis’s picture graces the cover of the box set, the King’s voice is not on the discs. Did EPE reach a new depth on the Merchandising front with the "Elvis" Karaoke set? We’ll let you be the judge.

Welcome to Sillerman's vision of Elvis. Exactly the same as EPE's, but with that little extra tat factor. Told you so.

No comment. Folks - Think we can pool our resources together and take control of EPE? Only fans know what fans want. This is a joke!

As someone who sings at lot of karaoke bars I can tell you that all lot of karaoke backgrounds are of poor quality. But then again I've run into many that are very good. As we karaoke singers like to say, not all backgrounds are created equal. We accept that as one of the hazards of karaoke. I have several hundred Elvis karaoke tracks all by the same company with several song repeats among the discs and even then there are differences in the various versions. As for the backgrounds or the "guide" vocals not doing the songs justice, get a grip on reality. It ain't Elvis and his band. It ain't the real thing It's karaoke!!There are several companies out there in the real world making money on Elvis karaoke. I have no problem withhEPE getting on board. Frankly, I'm surprised it took them so long. Now if you'll excuse me I'm going to put a karaoke disc into my CDG player and practice "Fame and Fortune."

Have to agree with Steve on this one! This is awful. EPE & Sillerman aren't honoring Elvis, they are making a joke out of him for quick financial gain. I wish there was some way all the fans could unite & take over. I am sure every fan would contribute to the purchase in some way. The merchandise they are offering is extremely limited & uninspiring, and in some case tacky. We are a much better indicator of what the fans want & would buy. A few years ago EPE used to listen to us but no longer.
