Hard Rock Cafe and Pepsi Bring Memorabilia From Rock’s 50 Year History to a City Near You.

Orlando, FL, May 27, 2004 – This summer, Hard Rock Cafe, one of the most globally recognized music, entertainment and dining brands, is traveling the country with its world renowned collection of rock ‘n’ roll memorabilia. The Hard Rock Cafe multi-city mobile tour, sponsored by Pepsi, commemorates the 50th anniversary of rock ‘n’ roll, memorialized by the recording of Elvis Presley’s “That’s All Right” at the legendary Sun Studios in Memphis, Tennessee on July 5, 1954. In partnership with the Memphis Convention and Visitors Bureau, Elvis Presley Enterprises, Sun Studios, BMG and Warner Brothers Home Video, the mobile tour makes its debut in Dallas at Eric Clapton’s Crossroads Guitar Festival on June 4, 2004.

Over the past five decades bands such as the Beatles, with their engaging personalities and original melodies, and the Grateful Dead, who helped bring about a psychedelic rock revolution, have had a profound impact on American culture. The “50 Years of Rock Mobile Tour” will take music fans through a musical journey, combining a retrospective look at rock ‘n’ roll with the Hard Rock experience. This exciting, self-guided exhibit will highlight several decades beginning with the early years of 50s rock in Memphis. It will showcase legendary pieces of memorabilia, including the guitar that Elvis played during his electrifying and widely viewed 1968 comeback special, a pair of black and white shoes worn frequently by Elvis in the 1950s on loan from Graceland, an Alembic custom model bass guitar played by the Grateful Dead’s Bob Weir during the early 1970s and a red tuxedo from Van Halen’s controversial 1984 “Hot for Teacher” video. The mobile tour will also feature classic performances and interviews from some of rock’s most influential artists.

“The impact of music on pop culture is undeniable. This mobile tour gives enthusiasts the opportunity to relive their favorite rock ‘n’ roll memories by seeing unique pieces of music memorabilia that are relevant to this historical celebration,” said Brian Siemienas, director of marketing, Hard Rock Cafe. “Hard Rock Cafe has crafted its own place in rock history and we are thrilled to celebrate its 50th anniversary by bringing recognizable artifacts to music fans around the country.”

The Hard Rock tour should take in Tupelo Mississippi! Even if the City is close to Memphis. It deserves far more attention now it is becoming a must see birthplace. The improvements to the Elvis Presley Park in the past few years have become quite a tourist attraction. Their annual Elvis Festival is on this weekend.
