Pre-listen To Christmas Duets Album

It's hard to form an opinion on the overall product based on a compressed 30 sec. sample. But I will say that I had pretty much decided I was going to buy this and hearing the samples didn't change my mind. Generally speaking I like the new music backings.

I have been very very critical about this from the start, but despite that, I was hoping to be blown away by these samples. It is pretty tough to judge much from them--especially Merry Christmas Baby which is 30 seconds of intro with no vocal at all. And a few of the clips do not feature the duet artist at all, just Elvis is heard. I really really hated the one with Wynonna Judd in particular, but I actually pretty thoroughly hated all the tracks I heard with the new artists involved. Oh Little Town of Bethlehem seemed like it was on a path that could have been interesting--actually harmonizing with Elvis, but the sample is too small to tell. HOWEVER--I was truly kind of blown away by The First Noel. I love Elvis' voice and always thought he was a little overpowered on this song originally. I love the new backing on this snippet--understated, string arrangement, lets the beauty of his voice come through! Really great! If I Get Home On Christmas Day was always a big favorite, can't tell from this sample if the new guitar part is really as twangy as it sounds on my computer speakers or not.

Sounds pretty good to me ! As pointed out, its hard to review a CD, with such short samples. I must say, I think, the Wynonna duet with Elvis is one of the strongest tracks, on the CD ! Elvis, will definately get more Radio airplay this Christmas..

Of note.. "Winter Wonderland" mix-.. never sounded better !!! I wish RCA would do more Remixing-Redubbing with Elvis' songs. Putting a new "Fresh of paint" on a classic is okay if its done well and staying close to the original..

GEEZ...Who thought this crap up to put on CD? I wish RCA/BMG/SONY whoever would have put time, effort and money into maybe a.............. FTD CHRISTMAS CD with outtakes that would thrill all of us Elvis fans. I'd rather listen to the duet of "Who Needs Money" 50 times then put up with Olivia Newton - John howling her voice next to EP. Speaking of the duets "Who Needs Money" seems to be EPE, CKX and RCA's slogan. Who Needs Money.... I DO :)

EinVegas....?? This CD is surprisingly good, the different arrangements give the songs a fresh hearing, I don't know many of the singers apart from Ann Murray & Olivia Newton John, but I think I might just buy it.

WOW, this really sounds good! Esspecilly: 3;2;7 and 11(!), 13. Perhaps some of the number even gets better after the remix..! More of this please :-) But they should have put more numbers on this one. Perfeft Xmas present...but I guess I can´wait so long!

More numbers on this one? Bite your tongue, Master Fatman. If this does well (as I believe it will) there will likely be volume two for Christmas 2009. Think green (as in money).

ttwiise, you don't have to enjoy it, and clearly you don't, nobody's forcing you too my friend. I'm usually like you on thing's like this, but this is surprisingly good !

I, for one will buy this cd. Good to have something different. I'm sure El would've been 'chuffed'.

this is t h e christmas project of the year. and yes, I cannot understand why the man behind the music never did such a project while he was alive. any reasons for that. duets were done during all the history of recorded music. any ideas by anyone, why this never happened?

Yes, Steve_V. I knew, but before running the "Col Parker didn't allow that" routine I wanted to give way for any other answer to it. But, yes, of course, that's the way it was. Elvis would have needed an advisory board including Chips Moam, Steve Binder and everyone else except Parker...In consequence this would have lead to a change of the recording company. What about Columbia Records...?
