The Madison label will release the CD "Opening Night - January 1970" very soon. This CD contains a soundboard recording of the January 26, 1970 opening show. It comes with a professionally designed 16-page booklet, liner notes, memorabilia and photographs from Elvis' second Las Vegas season

From the press release:

The soundboard recording of the January 26, 1970 opening show was overall of poor quality because of severe microphone overload. Why doesnt BMG/RCA/Sony, etc. have a complete tape of any show from this season? I cant believe one doesnt exist. It was overall prob the best Vegas season of all. These are nice, but still the sound will be lacking. We need a professional release of a complete show from this season.

RCA didn't record complete shows during this season. Sad,but true... Many thanks to the Madison label for making avaiable the complete opening and closing show in reasonable soundboard quality and with fantastic booklets. This is the best presentation of these shows we'll ever get.

Madsion is not capable of a multi-track recordings like FTD's one night in vegas, all shook up,elvis at the international,or polk salad annie...there are highs, and lows in the recording...elvis is too far up front with the band lacking sound, or the back up singers sounding too loud...personally nothing against Madison, but for me these recordings are poor, and it's not the way i like to listen to my music...i purchased closing night and was big time dissapointed...of the sound that is, and not elvis's performance...even hot august night lacked the sound when compared to the bmg's an afternnon in the garden...multi-track for me, or nothing....

The show has appeared on several releases now and is floating around in collectors circles for years now as CDR, also a complete AR does exist. I do hope that this is the ultimative release of this great show. Madison stands for topnotch products. Anyway I will have a close listening to Can`t help Falling In Love for cuts ..on all SB releases it is incomplete..

I've read that Elvis joked with the audience and the band in the middle of songs during this season, which made some people angry. The shows were also short, averaging around 45 minutes. I've not heard this particular show, so I don't know if that can be said about this performance? "On Stage" is one of the best live albums from RCA, and if they do have more from this season in the vault, it would make for a fantastic release.
