Let's hope we get an additional disc on this release, and not just a few extra takes added to the re-release of the Loving You CD that came out a few months ago. I suggested to Roger a while back that they use the original Japanese LP sleeve instead of the usual one if they were considering an FTD upgrade - ditto with the King Creole upgrade. He said it seemed like a good idea to use a rare cover and would mention it to Ernst.

I totally disagree with that idea. It is nice for the booklet, but the aim of the series was to bring it with original coverart...

I really hope that the FTD releases this time are of higher quality or better sound and no repetition from other previous releases than they were last time. I would be telling a lie if I said I am a little dissapointed in the selection of titles. Hopefully the set will be a two disc and not the exact same alternates we got on the Loving You one a little while Back, Really I think this one was the worst choice out of all the ones being released. I am not gonna be negative though I hope I am surprised and very happy with the selections. P.S. I was almost 1 month old when the king died on 08-16-77 may his memory and music live on to my Childrens generation and generations to come and have the same effect on them it did me when I first heard an Elvis tape 20 yrs ago.

Sorry Lex but I have to disagree with you. The FTD upgrade series was/is aimed at giving you a good selection of unreleased out-takes for collectors coupled with an upgraded package. The majority of releases so far have kept to the original front cover artwork because that was the artwork used across the world, and no other worthy album covers were available. Even the rare S African "Tickle Me" sleeve was a blow up of the US EP sleeve. I am not aware, neither are FTD of any other worthwhile sleeve variants from other countries that could have been used in this series and FTD were certainly not going to any additional expense of creating new front covers. I might agree with you had everything on these releases been a replication of the original ie single sleeve, single disc, same tracks etc, but once you move away from the original by adding extra tracks, open out sleeves etc, then the concept of "keeping to the original" is blown out of the water.

Lex I agree with you. Use the original cover art. No slight is intended to fans outside the US who may have had different, or even better covers, but the idea is to replicate the original artwork. Adding extra tracks or including a booklet and a gatefold sleeve is in keeping with the CD format. Of course you can't get a true replication of the album art, otherwise we'd have these CD's in 12 inch covers instead of 7 inch. But just because you upgrade the package doesn't mean you should ignore the way they originally looked, in my opinion.

I agree with Axeman and Lex: one of the original ideas of these FTD releases was to show the first US coverart, and I think that Ernst said that these albums also would come with the original mix and the original eq. So, why do we keep on complaining about cover and sound? I'm abosuletly pleased with this material and I'm absolutely fed up of reading such complainings. On the other hand I think that they should reconsider the release of "Loving You" because of the january release.

Why is FTD waisting time with Loving you, when this has been upgraded and released already? Lets get to Raised on Rock or all the Promised Land session material would be more better recieved. Ernst hope you feeling better!

Agreed, ep3577, I wondered the same thing...in fact I did it here but the message never showed up on the boards. Anyway as disapoointed as I was about this initially, I've learned that they've discovered new alternates from Jan 57, one of them was played in Memphis this week and it was an alternate of Mean Woman Blues that's supposed to be great. Maybe we'll get an alternate of Teddy Bear or Party too? I'm not sure if this will be a single or 2 CD set. I would imagine to include the original LP, all the released outtakes and NEW stuff, it would have to be 2 CDs. But who knows.

Loving You is not a release we are waiting for. It was just released a couple of years ago with outtakes. FTD made a good start in the beginning, but now it's going to release to same old stuff again. See the release "Today". Only 6 outtakes on that one.

elpete: As an FTD buyer I can assure you that if I buy it I listen to it. I don't buy an FTD cd simply to "collect" it. They're too expensive. No, I don't have them all. Audience recordings/soundboards suck!!

indeed JerryNodak..They're too expensive to buy and not listen but I told my dealer to sent FTD`s automatic cause the FTD`s was a dream for me for more than 25 years I been a Elvis fan . When they release this label they told It was for special releases / unreleased material and they did at first. Now a days they bring out the old RCA catalog and now and then a soundboard. They told us you could only guy this special product by fan clubs ,you can buy it now a days in any local record shop.etc.I could go on with a list off complains but it`s clear I don`t buy this cd`s anymore . It`s a waisted of money cause I alrighty have 140 original lps , 278 cd`s 40 video`s and 30 dvds I could tell you I have most material of the king. I had a big hope that FTD release undubbed elvis 70th , rehearsals , Elvis in concert cbs tapes undubbed , openingnights , closingnights , 20/23 july 1975 concerts . It`s a dream.Peter from Holland
