The results were announced today (30th). The Top 4 were: 1. Sir Terry Wogan, 2. The Beatles, 3. Nelson Mandela, 4. Diana - Princess Of Wales. I do not know what position Elvis rated. The results appear very ethnocentric as is usual for the BBC.

No way The Beatles could be classed as icons (ugly sods) and if Nelson "Madfella" Mandela wins it, i'll show my ass in Woolies window. Come on BBC, there's only one Ultimate Icon on this Planet and know-one needs a poll to prove who it is.

EJF - how lucky you are! I grew up in Malta (well 4 yours as my dad was in the RAF), in Sliema and San Gwann - when San Gwann was a small village - and I go back at least twice a year; have done for 20 years, one of the best places in the world. OK, maybe not St Georges on a Saturday night drowing in teenaged drunks, but, hey, most are Danish girls on language courses, so could be worse!!!!

Voted. Brian is right, this is loaded. But at least the fact that it is difficult to vote will at least reduce the impulse votes.

Brian Quinn, I am from Malta and I had no difficulty in submitting my vote. Fans outside UK should fill the first three lines and choose "----" from the drop-down menu in the "Your Region" line. Actually there are two "----" and I chose the one under London. Come on fans, let's show the world whi is the Ultimate Icon!

'Ultimate Icon' - On the Home Page for Radio 2 it has a picture of The Beatles. Not what I call fair advertising. I have e-mailed BBC Radio 2 complaining about this and suggest others do the same.
