New SUN Takes Discovered?

August 14, 2005 | Music
At the Elvis Insiders Conference Roger Semon played new samples of newly discovered SUN takes. He played footage of him and Ernst Jorgensen in the recording studio finding four versions of "Blue Moon" supposedly never heard by anybody in the world before.

Update August 16:

Due to a misunderstanding during a phone conversation with E.I.N.'s roving reporter in Memphis, the site mistakenly suggested that Roger Semon (from BMG / FTD) had played previously unheard outtakes of "Blue Moon". This was in fact not the case.

This is good news although discovery of possible NEW songs (Satisfied, Uncle Penn etc.) would be more welcome (if they exist of course). I just hope these four outtakes will not be spread on four re-vamped versions of "Elvis At Sun" to obtain them! Hopefully they would be included on the proposed Sun Box-Set. Keep searching boys!

I'm sorry to burst bubbles, but the source of this information misunderstood what we were shown at the Insiders Conference. (Other witnesses have confirmed that an error has been made.) Roger Semon -- standing in for the ill Ernst Jorgensen -- showed video taken when he and Ernst made their first foray into the RCA tape vaults. We saw them rummaging the shelves, studying paperwork and listening to tapes at the mixing board -- back in the early '90s. At one point, Ernst holds up a tape box and says -- not a direct quote -- here are four new takes of Blue Moon no one has ever heard. Yes, that was an exciting moment -- more than a decade ago. These takes have since been released on the '50s box, Sunrise and Platinum. Again, just a misunderstanding, but this was not new footage of a new discovery.
