New Magazines

March 10, 2005 | Other
Three new editions of well-known magazines arrived at our headquarters this week, two from the UK and one from Denmark.

Essential Elvis' "theelvismag" needs no superlatives, since they use them enough already. Still the magazine is a very good read, with in this issue - besides the regulars - part II of the interview with Myrna Smith, and an interview with Elvis' session singer Carol Montgomery.

UK's (and probably the world's) best magazine The Man And His Music has as highlight a very interesting interview with the webmaster of one of the best sites on the net "Master & Session".

Last, but not least, the magazine with the beautiful name... Elvis Unlimited's ElvisNews. Our danish isn't that good, but we recognized the Memphis Trip article, on which we saw quite some familiar faces.

In your opinion.(TMAHM) In my opinion you would have a long way to go to beat Essential Elvis Mag. GREAT mag not full of adverts like some and plenty to read I would like to say well done Andrew keep up the good work

The latest "Essential Elvis" is excellent especially that great Interview with Carol Montgomery by superfan Tony Stuchbury. "Elvis-The Man And His Music" is superb as usual. I subscribe to "Elvis News" even though I can't read a word of Danish?or is it in Dutch?? I subscribe because of its great glossy color pictures.Morever I got a free rare Jailhouse Rock Elvis shaped CD disc with my subscription. But the English version of "ELVIS UNLIMITED" by Hendricks Knudsen & Lars Gjeding is really excellent. I just love collecting all these wonderful Elvis picture magazines.

ETMAHM is BY FAR the best Elvis mag in the UK or otherwise for that matter.

Elvis News is Danish as in Denmark. Not Dutch as in Holland, comprende?? Elvis News and Elvis Unlimited do a terrific job with their magazines. Henrik Knudsen and Lars Gjeding have very fine connections to the inner circle around Elvis Presley, and not seldom the magazines have interesting interviews with guys like James Burton, Glenn D. Hardin , Bob Moore, John Wilkinson a.s.o And furthermore I have to mention - not without bragging - that Ernst (FTD) also is Danish, so all good things come from Denmark. And by the way: Denmark is not the capital of Disneyland in France -) And by the second way: Elvis once shook hands with our Queen Margrethe in Germnay. Now that's a matter of fact, and you know it well, or you're gonna mess with this Danish male.

I think it's splitting hairs trying to choose between TMAHM and EE (that's why I subscribe to both), they both offer a great quality published magazine but coming from two different ends of the spectrum. If you want something a little lighter and an easy fun read go with EE if you want facts, figures and a little more depth on collecting go with TMAHM. As for interviews they both get a good mix of everyone and I wouldn't choose between them. Talking of interviews: For those of you who enjoy this type of information you might like the rundown on the second photograph in the Carol Montgomery interview. The other people in the picture are Buzz Cason (looking at the pic he's on the left.) Carol, Ginger Holladay, and Bergen White. I thought it was very interesting to put faces to the names of Ginger who worked a heck of a lot with Elvis and Bergen White who was responsible for arrangement etc on the Moody Blue album.

Sorry to dissapoint you "eagleone" but I didn't close down Elvis Monthly. That was due to WH Smith Wholesale who cut back on the number of small circulation "affinity" titles that they would distribute. The "Monthly" was one of 200 titles that got the chop. As for good old Albert Hand, in real terms he only edited "Elvis Monthly" until 1964 when that task was undertaken by a girl in his office simply known as Vee Gee. In 1968 Tony Atkinson - the wonderful guy who printed the title became the editor, until 1973 when I took it over. That said, "eagleone" I'm sure you'll find something else to slag me off about.

Hey Mr.Todd Slaughter, don't let that little eagle fella gets you down. He's always drunk or on something? whenever he post anything here. Just want you to know that I've bought that ELVIS ARCHIVES book of yours and I must say it is wonderful and you & Ann Nixon have both done a marvelous job. The photos are super rare & this is the kind of book that I welcome anytime. I would highly recommend this superb book to any serious fan/collector. Keep up the good work Todd, you're appreciated (at least by me)
