New Figurines Coming

Toy manufacturer McFarlane is working on two new Elvis figurines. After Blue Hawaii, '68, That's The Way It Is, Gold Lame, '56, Jailhouse Rock and On Tour, they're releasing "Elvis Gospel" in May of next year, and "Aloha From Hawaii" in August. The Gospel-figurine is inspired by the If I Can Dream scene, and wears a white two piece suit.

I happen to like the Elvis figurines. I've bought two, the '68 version and the 70's version. They're both on my desk at work. I don't understand why some fans are hyper-critical about Elvis figurines? If McFarlane was in charge of BMG or FTD, I might wonder why we're getting figurines instead of more music. But alas, McFarlane has no connection to the music. He's a comic book artist that has found a market in sculpting cool iconic figures of all kinds. He gives Elvis fair and honorable treatment. If liking his stuff makes me childish or stupid or whatever, then count me in with the guilty.

paul reno said:By dismissing his later years, the Estate are actually contributing to the myth of the newspaper reports that say Elvis was fat and ugly later in his career. That was far from the truth. boy, that hits the problem on the head! may i quote you in other places? i love that. i want to add, bad impersonators contribute to that myth. (and i dont mean to open that sore subject in this category!) the only time elvis looked 'bad' to me, live, was dec 12, 1976. in 74 & 75 , he looked GREAT. mcfarland should do something in the famous sundial. or some other spectacular suit beyond aloha. (i love the tiger!)

as for the other stuff manufactured beyond the music: in the 70s i bought pins, posters, photo albums and yes, also the music. i became a casual fan thru the movies. then the music, and seeing him live cemented my fandom. for some fans, it is not just the music, it is the image. that seems to connect very heavily and that's what these other products are about. i do buy =some= of them. many make me ask 'what???' i like the mcfarland IF they make a good attempt to replicate elvis. i hate the holiday ornaments that arent even close. yecch!

the primary thing about elvis is the music, but i suppose we americans also like the movies, the concerts, and the image. it still has an effect on people. so, many do not care to buy every outtake. they dont 'study' elvis like you do. (and i have ... :) these kind of products keep elvis on the minds of people. his music does not and cannot regularly hit the top of the american charts anymore. that's just how it is. we cant have something like 'conversation' all the time. i dont even listen to top 40 anymore. it's a new generation.

these products are easy to find and buy. especially for many who are not on the internet! fans arent interested in putting effort time and money into buying 'the pre death' items. boy, do i know that. i dont have my walls covered in plates and dolls and stuffed animals. (bleah) i have vintage 70s posters! and many items from the vegas years (my heart and soul of collecting). i still have all my lps, and i m working on all the 45s. but unless i stumble on a cheap deal for a sun record, i wont be buying that.

you dont want to open the subject of 'you cant really be a fan if...' there's all kinds of elvis fans and they cant all be like some of you serious 'music only' lovers. there's elvis for everyone!

This is the kind of crap the Colonel marketed right after he died with Boxcar. I see 30 years later we still have some folks that care for this type of product. For goodness sake save up and buy something that really matters to an Elvis collection like SUN 209, LPM-1382 first pressing, a maroon label EP, Cpmpact 33 single. Elvis Hot Chocolate , figurines, countless re-issue cds, no classic albums in print, no Elvis On Tour DVD. Yeah we've come a long way.

LOL. At least his "sense of humor" will leave a lasting impression on Capitol Hill. I might even watch a President's speech on TV for once.

The fact that this thread has had so many replies just goes to show how many fruit loops and plebs there are out there. Elvis fugurines? Grow up, will ya? Why is is that some people will buy any old tat as long as Elvis' name is on it?

Checking the source Elvis Matters, they also mention a " "That's the way it is"-figurine. Never seen or heard about such figurine.Perhaps they mean the " Las Vegas"-one. And indeed , no "On Tour"-figurine either. Would be nice if correct info was given, but we are all human beings and make mistakes now and then, so no harm done. Always El.

The Elvis on Tour is a 3-D Wall Art, not a figurine.

There are many good Elvis shots from 1977 - I wish they didn't dismiss this era. If you search through the last year of his life, there are many great photographs. By dismissing his later years, the Estate are actually contributing to the myth of the newspaper reports that say Elvis was fat and ugly later in his career. That was far from the truth.

i've never seen or heard of the 'on tour' figure so it may br a typo error. the blue hawaii is pretty good. it looks cool on a spring day. i hope the aloha is as good too. a 77 figure could be good if tastefully done, after all he didn't die in 1973 ....

i havent seen the on tour one or blue hawaii :( cant wait to see the aloha one though

to keep it all together why not the June 77 figure. and then put an end to the all the sillyness, and get back to the music.

Pretty good collection of figures. The 1968 leather figure still being the best and the 1970 TTWII being the worst. i'm interested to see how the new ones will look.
