May 21, 2009 | Music

Elvis Presley Enterprises announced a new event for Elvisweek 2009, an Elvis Plaque Presentation from Sony Music. On Saturday, August 15 fans can join EPE and executives from Sony Music for a presentation of plaques that honor Elvis' recent worldwide Gold, Silver and Platinum achievements.

The last addition to RIAA's database for Elvis Presley was a Gold Award status for the "Ultimate Gospel" compilation CD while in Australia the DVD 'Elvis The King Of Rock And Roll" reached a double Platinum status.

The operative words in this press release are 'Worldwide' and 'Recent'. So this round of presentations does not look as though it will feature any old albums e.g. 'Elvis Presley'; 'Elvis', or Elvis' Christmas Album (1970 Camden Version) etc. Most previous presentations have been for domestic U.S.A. releases - so Worldwide releases is also an interesting move and will more than likely include DVD's. However, excellent news. At least Sony have started to look into upgrading Elvis' achievements.

When will we see the diamond awards (which had to be given many years ago already...) presentation for Elvis? I really wonder why...
