MTV No Elvis Fan

May 26, 2005 | Other
In The Netherlands there is a MTV advertisment campaign with a negative link to Elvis. The text reads: "If Elvis was still alive, he'd be dead by now. So ... what's on MTV?".

The only thing we wonder is "If Elvis was still alive, would we need MTV? So ... let's play another Elvis movie".

This proves yet again that MTV is biased against the king. Well If elvis was still alive, MTV probably would not even be here, and if it was, he would tell MTV where to go.

The text box on the upper right of the add says something like "I just happen to know these things". So I believe it's just a funny way of saying there's a lot of nonsense in the "news/infotainment" media so you better watch music. That Elvis is used only proves how big the name is. It's immediately recognizable also for the target group of MTV. The comment "If Elvis was still alive, would we need MTV?" implies we do need MTV because Elvis isn't alive. Just to show how easy it is to mis-interpret a written line.

I've first seen this billboard a couple of weeks ago. Actually I think it is very funny.

All I can tell you for sure is that Elvis is there in the first page selling like hot cakes even almost after 28 years.... This Is Elvis....

I think it's funny too. We've had to put up with a whole lot worse than this before now, don't worry about it.

We as Elvis fans can do something about those types of opinions. Go to DISCOVERY CHANNEL website and find the link to vote for ELVIS as "THE GREATEST AMERICAN". Voting starts June 5 and the top 100 Americans will be aired on TV. Keep voting for Elvis. The heck with MTV and the likes of those opinions!!

Totally harmless and...-totally wrong! Ironically they seem desperate trying to draw focus on their ad by using the most powerfull name in music history, -Elvis. And by doing so.. actually showing us that MTV is dead.!
