More Merchandise

March 14, 2004 | Other
Recently EPE authorized some more merchandise; an Elvis Jukebox CD-player and another Teddy Bear. Here are the details.

EPE and Crosley Radio are celebrating the 50th Anniversary of The King of Rock ’n’ Roll’s history-making first recording by introducing The Limited Edition Elvis Presley Baby Bubbler Jukebox. The Elvis Presley Baby Bubbler combines the all the functionality of a Compact Disc Player and an FM Radio in a handsomely styled, white wood cabinet. This Limited Edition features enough neon to light a room and adds decorative gold-plated accents, a fully-functioning gold-plated remote control, percolating bubble tubes and comes complete with the Official Certificate of Authenticity. Only 5,000 units are scheduled for production and it is available for sale through Crosley Radio’s exclusive authorized dealer – Jukebox Mart.

In honor of 50 years of Rock and Roll, Elvis Presley Enterprises and its licensee, The Vermont Teddy Bear Company, are teaming up to celebrate the historical recording of Elvis Presley’s first song. The Vermont Teddy Bear Company designed and imported a commemorative, limited edition Elvis Bear 2, which is licensed as an Official Elvis Presley Signature Item by Elvis Presley Enterprises. The one-of-a-kind teddy bear will be offered in more than 750 Kroger stores in six states free of charge with a minimum purchase.

I'm not the least bit interested in the teddy bear, but I just might buy the jukebox. I'm selling my full size stereo gear(no room) and have been looking for something compact and unique. This should do the trick.

I'm with you, dismas. An other teddy bear, with clodes but still an ordinary teddy bear. Nothing "Elvis" in the jukebox either. The "Certificate of Authenticity" (authenticity of what?) is a big joke in cases like that!

I don't know about anybody else out there, but this kind of kitsch crap really gets under my skin. It's the kind of junk that reinforces the pervading negative public perception of Elvis and his fans - a ridiculous public image we've all been fighting against for years. And for the love of a lousy buck, EPE not only continues to condone it, but actually authorizes this demeaning garbage that is, in the end, so detrimental to the Elvis Legacy. Sad.

It surprises me that EPE consent to so much tacky merchandise being issued with their approval when it obviously has a knock-on effect on the Elvis image they try so hard to preserve!
