MGM Acetate Jailhouse Rock Discovered?

February 18, 2005 | Music
Marc Gargiulo from the Official French fan club Treat Me Nice discovered acetate of "Jailhouse Rock" which should contain "Jailhouse Rock" in a superb audio quality and a strange version of "Jailhouse Rock" with a piano intro in stead of a drum intro.

I cannot see the connection between this "Jailhouse Rock" acetate and the question of releasing "Elvis On Tour" on DVD, but here goes. Where has it ever been stated that MGM filmed twelve complete concerts for "Elvis On Tour"? It has always been documented that the whole of the Hampton Roads concert was filmed with segments filmed at three other shows. Perhaps you can shed some light on your source of information. Rumours have surfaced for years about film such as this. There are fans who say they have friends who own fifty hours of live "TTWII" on video, but refuse to let anyone see it including their aforementioned friends! Dream on.

I remember Leiber & Stoller saying that Elvis took a different approach to what they had in mind for the song. They saw the song as having more of a walking, strolling beat to it. I just wonder if Elvis ever tried it their way?

The recordings from Jailhouse Rock are already in superb sound. Acetates are in lesser sound quality. Acetates are not the master tapes.

Lyle thats what i thought.. how can this be in superb quality if its an acatate??

I guess they mean: superb quality FOR an acetate. They don't compare it to the master tapes. Anyway, if it's true (we have to be cautious here), it's an historical record.

this guy is such a crook that I am very doubtful. Whatever his fan club is not the official french fan club...

Arnaud: both fan clubs claim to be the official one. ;-) Is there an official fan club? Anyway, I have some strong doubts also, so wait and see.

you're right paul as both fan clubs claim to be the official one ; there's simply a difference. one works for elvis image is honnest to his fans and his actions are countless ; the other has been ruled by someone who has been a real crook ( and whho is very well known in the elvis world as such ) to generations of fans (including me ) since 40 years. Anyway figures are here : 90% of the french fans have left gargiulo's club ( which should have been called "the treat HIM nice"), there must be a reason.

Arnaud: I know you're right. I was one of the first member of the "Treat me nice" (if I remember well, I was #16). It was in 1966, I think. Things have changed a lot. And I agree with everything you say. This is why I told we have to be very cautious about this acetate.
