Are the earlier compilations out of stock?

Someone on this board will tell me why this is an essential and useful release but I'm going to need a lot of convincing. I have the distinct feeling that if I had a dollar for every Christmas compilation issued in the last 10 years then I would be a rich man.

Hey, its still better than those duets...

'The Duets' album is an excellent release. It has sold over 500,000 in the U.S.A. alone and therefore qualifies for an RIAA GOLD Award. Personally I think SONY are marketing Elvis wrongly with these Christmas releases and should only have one or two on sale. I do like the cover on this new release however.

"you can buy all the regular Christmas songs"...I count 20 Elvis Christmas songs. I guess "The First Noel", "Silent Night", "Oh Little Town of Bethlehem", "On A Snowy Christmas Night", "The Wonderful World of Christmas", "Here Comes Santa Claus", "I'll Be Home For Christmas" and "White Christmas" are no longer considered Christmas songs.

The only Christmas comp I wish I could buy on CD is Elvis' Christmas Album ('70) with the original cover. Brian Q: Can you put a bug in someone's ear about this?

I guess your referring to the 1970 Camden Christmas release . For some reason it's never been issued on CD with the original cover. They should release that, and while they're at it they should release the 1971 Camden LP C'mon Everybody on CD. I'm not sure if there are any other Camdens that haven't been issued on CD. So Sony , release those two and complete the collection.

The best Elvis Christmas CD collection, was the 1994 RCA release, titled: "If Every Day Was Like Christmas". It featured all the Christmas songs, and some alternate versions. RCA should re-master the 1994 CD, note by note, and if need be change the album artwork every few years. I, for one would love to see a color photo on the album cover. And now, two other ideas I have: Number 1- Re-release the 1957 Christmas album with the beautiful booklet with Elvis photos, that was featured in the original album..or Number 2-release the 2 original Christmas albums in a "Legacy Package". Putting the Christmas albums on 2 CDs, the 50s set, along with some alternates, on CD one, and the 70s set, with some alternates on CD 2. Of course RCA would have to add "If everyday was like Christmas" to the mix, which wasn't on either original Christmas album. P.S. I too, liked the "Christmas duets" CD. Some duets worked.. some didn't. But it was a nice collection. Would Love to see a "Duets 2" with some of the biggest acts in todays music with Elvis. The previous "duets" was programmed towards the "Country Music" market, and, I would like the second CD, leaning more towards the "pop" & "R & B" market. Just some thoughts !

I want to see FTD come out with Christmas box set of all the songs and all the alternate versions also I would LOVE to see have all the 50's to the 70's outtakes, all remastered like they just did on the Stax collection and or on the complete Elvis Presley masters huge box set. Both sound quality are simply out of this world.

Great ideas (as always IMO) from George, I was just about to write that they should release both Christmas albums as one legacy, together with If Every Day Was Like Christmas, and then let that be the last release ( the idea with the different covers was really good also). One reason that Elvis doesn't have that many albums that have gone over 3 million, is that they release different albums all the time with the same 50 songs in different combinations. And what about some promotion around Christmas of his Christmas albums, they could stress the fact that the '57 album has been named the second best Christmas album of all time (only beat by Spectors album, and that was be several different artists), and that one of the all time best blues numbers Merry Christmas Baby is on the 71 Christmas album. This would be a great way to introduce Elvis to people, and then Put promotion for other albums inside those. The best thing about this release is the cover and the fact that it is so cheap that I can buy 10 and give them away, instead of flowers when visiting people around Christmas time . I could go for FMs idea too though, they both should write Sony.

Thanks alanfalk, for the kind words. By the way the "Elvis-White Christmas" CD (released in America) had the best album cover photo of all the Christmas albums, so far, issued on CD. Colorful and a great photo of Elvis ! And sadly, the CD, is out of print.

Unfortunately no outtakes of the 50's Christmas songs are available. They are probably either lost or erased. I agree that "If Every Day Was Like Christmas" was the best cd as it included all the songs and some good outtakes. RCA releasing a new Christmas CD every year is beyond belief...

aThese are usless releases, that only clutter the store shelves,i cant imagaine being a new fan of elis and trying to figure out what cd's to buy to get all of his songs. If everyday was like christmas is all thats needed.

I pre-ordered mine. Will it be on time for Christmas?...

Many years ago Ernst said that the annual Christmas-albums are always great sellers no matter what selections they chose. With the profits they finance weaker releases like Essential Elvis. Who knows. Maybe they still put the earnings of those releases into projects like FTD. Under those circumstances I can't really say something about these xmas-samplers.

If you're going to cut down the Christmas catalog to "if Every Day Was Like Christmas" SONY best give it a sonic upgrade. It sounds ancient compared to more recent Christmas packages.

You can indeed buy this new compilation from Amazon.com for $4.99, but the postage to the UK is an additional $6.48, which makes it about £7.50! (And Yep, mine's on the way!!) Only thing that bugs me about this is that red west will be getting more royalties...

I knew I'd seen this cover pic on a CD before! It's also used on the Czech 'Memory' Bootleg "Just a closer walk with thee" released in November 2000.

Just Bought This At My Local Big Lots! i Paid 5 Bucks For It And That's About What it's Worth . Horrible Sound And Cheap Packaging . plus it's only 30 minutes long and the track list is blank on the cd so if you want too add it to your itunes you will have to manual put in the songs .
