Former ASCAP Executive Merlin Littlefield Dead at 65. Merlin Littlefield, a one-time music executive with non-profit performance rights organization ASCAP, succumbed to pancreatic cancer in Nashville on Tuesday at 65.
Littlefield, a graduate of Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas, worked in radio promotion in nearby Dallas after finishing school. His then took a job with RCA records in the same city, which found him working alongside Elvis Presley and Henry Mancini. During his 19-year tenure at ASCAP’s Nashville office, Littlefield signed many prominent acts, including Reba McEntire, George Strait, Gary Burr, and Lyle Lovett.
