Mary Lays Elvis Rumor To Bed

April 27, 2000 | Other
MARY TYLER MOORE has just spoiled one of the great guessing games in pop culture by declaring she didn't have sex with Elvis Presley when they made "Change of Habit" in 1969.

Presley used to boast that he'd slept with all the leading ladies in his 29 pictures, bar one. That gave all of them an out - each could claim she was resistant to the King's charms, and decorum was thus satisfied.

But now, at 62, Mary has blown it for everyone. "I don't mean to give away any secrets, but I know who that one is," she told a packed audience for her lecture at Florida's Broward Performing Arts Center the other night. "What was I thinking?" she added, to much laughter.

So, unless Presley's other co-stars now come forward to deny bedding him on the set, we are left with a truly impressive and wide-ranging number of conquests. Elvis made all his films before he got fat and strange. He was the Mick Jagger of his era.

If Elvis was to be believed, some of those who shared his sheets were Nancy Sinatra, Shelley Fabares, Donna Douglass, Ann-Margret, Barbara Stanwyck, Angela Lansbury (!), Ursula Andress and Juliet Prowse.
