I gotta say I am a little upset on this track listing, where are the takes from Raised On Rock,Girl Of Mine, Promised Land, If You Love Me Let Me Go, Down In The Alley,Spanish Eyes, Talk About The Good Times and Way Down??The Down In The Alley and Promised Land Takes I really expected to be on this one. I think for the price of these cds know 25 songs is not much to ask for. I am greatful for the FTD Label, but I am less excited about this release know.:(

What a horrible looking cover!! How long did this 'design' take ...5 seconds perhaps?

why the thompson sessie! that`s for budged release cd`s, why not more of the 73 sessies,If you talk in your sleep? There are other great songs from 69 to release, why in the ghetto, again? And where is the longer version of Danny boy?

dear JTH de cover is taken from the unsurpassed cd series. the ftd cd covers are all bad/sad/ugly. there are no good pictures off elvis anymore I think

So many great photos of Elvis are out there, and FTD chooses this as the Cover pic? Coudn't they do better ? Its not a flattering photo! I think the Colonel picked better album covers! (and thats not a compliment !) And why add "Private Recordings" with "studio Recordings"? The sound quality will not flow, "evenly".. As pointed out, so many Memphis studio outakes are yet to see the "light of day".. Lets release some of those !! However, I am "excited" to see that a "alternate version" of "Moody Blue" will be on this CD !!

As I read the opinions below I understand what difficult undertaking it is for Ernst to satisfy all of you. I would also like to hear more from each session, but for some reason they had only enough material for one disc, probably... although the many bootlegs prove me wrong. But you cannot complaint that it only contains 25 tracks, considering that the songs are 3-4 minutes approx., and a CD can only take 80 minutes of audio. And the design... come on... you know they can't afford a design crew so quit bugging on such unvital matter. Maybe I'm crazy, but I'm looking forward to this release!

Because they were all recorded in Memphis. Duh!

Poffe, "they can't afford a design crew"? Come on. Do you still believe FTD is a "top secret very rare fan club for insider fans only" product made in a dark cellar somewhere in Danmark? Than go to your record dealer nearby or just click i.e. Amazon.de! There you'll find all FTDs listed together with all other regular Elvis CDs. Only with the exception, that the FTDs cost 10 Euros more. That is 30,99 Euro (~34 $) for "Southern Nights". 30,99 Euro for a single CD on Amazon! They can't afford a design crew?

How hard is it really, to be an Elvis fan? To me, this is one of the better frontcovers of any FTD so far! Either you like it, or you don't! If you want it, get it! If you don't, don't!

Those Thompson home recordings are of very poor quality and they were all available already one time on some budget label cds. FTD should have issued 5 more outtakes instead from the Raised On Rock Stax Recording Sessions. And the cover picture, sorry I don't like it. But I'll have to buy it because it has 15 'new' outakes.
Renan Augusto wrote on February 16, 2006
I´ll just buy it to continue supporting the label. The cover is horrible and it seems it was designed on paintbrush.

Mmmm...let me think about it for a while...If You Don't Come Back, Three Corn Patches and Find Out What's Happening....mmmmm...I don't know. Home recordings...mmmmm....I don't know.....

I think this looks pretty weak. Just a bit of an attempt in trying to link these recordings because they were all in Memphis (So?). I'm disappointed in the lack of the '69 stuff. There are so many great things from those sessions do we reall need another version of Do You Know Who I Am? I hope and pray that FTD will consider releasing the Definitive From Elvis In Memphis Sessions box set with absolutely everything. It would be the best thing ever! As for the packaging, I was surprised to hear they don't have a designer. I think on the whole they look great.

I don't understand, here we have a selection of previously unreleased outtakes of some wonderful songs, and some people are moaning! Personally I don't worry too much about the cover but what's on the disc. Theres a lot of stuff here I've never heard and I can't wait to get it. As for the home recordings I don't even mind them if they've made an effort to improve the sound on them. This will be a brilliant addition to the FTD catalogue.

OK, the cover is not the greatest, the work of three minutes, the shot of Elvis looks nice though. I'm not so sure if that will be the final cover art. "Made In Memphis" will certainly not be one of the best FTD releases, but I think it's worth buying. I'm looking forward to hearing the outtakes of "Three Corn Patches", "Moody Blue" and above all "Thinking About You" - a great song, that reminds me of the Beatles somehow. I also welcome the home recordings on a FTD release. Hopefully the sound will be better than on those budget releases.

If that does turn out to be the cover, I like it. Just a bit different. I think the 'Memphis' concept is quite novel. I happen to have the Thompson home recordings and they are excellent - relaxed and intimate. This will give them a much wider audience. Many fans do not have access to 'unofficial' releases. Some people are never happy. They should have been around in the 60s when we had 11 or 12 track movie albums lasting about 25 minutes !

This is a mopping up exercise - doubtful if there is anything worthwhile left on the available tapes. Still worth the purchase though.

I love the cover, if theres some talking ,slapstick humour involved, it would make a great purchase. T C B everyone

What's wrong with the cover? I like it. It's a rare, relaxed shot of Elvis. I am looking forward to more outtakes from the Jungle Room Sessions, especially Moody Blue. To have the studio chat will be very interesting. FTD can't seem to do anything right, according to some fans. We should be thankful for the wonderful label. I love their releases. This is a CD I am really looking forward to.
Dixieland Rock wrote on February 16, 2006
I agree with you cathyreno. The cover isn't no big deal to me. There are other things to worry about in life than an album cover design. I'm thankful that FTD is releasing the album period. They didn't have to. So what if the home recordings are included. I'm still looking forward to the album because of the unreleased material. The way I deal with albums I don't like, I just don't buy them period. But there are those that will buy them & that's ok. That's what makes Elvis music great is there is something for everybody. Look forward to this album FTD.

Why 4 sessions on one disc? I am sure they have enough material for a separate disc for each session and for future releases. The homerecordings are superfluous and don`t fit. Anyway..I am looking forward to Moody Blue and Thinking About You takes.
Theo wrote on February 16, 2006
Great that all the songs from the Thompson session are finally officially being released. I've been waiting for an official relese of those songs for ages. Like elpete, I was also hoping for more songs from the '69 Memphis sessions, but I guess we'll just have to wait a little longer. I think the cover of the cd is OK. Not spectacular, but not bad either. All in all I'm looking forward to this cd and the outtakes on it.

Once again, people get very upset. "We want more outtakes!" Well, don't worry, they'll be on future releases in the Classic Album series: From Elvis in Memphis, Promised Land, Good Times, Raised on Rock, From E.P. Boulevard, Moody Blue. Also: don't judge this cd by its cover!
You Dont Know Me wrote on February 16, 2006
I quite simply REFUSE to attempt to pre-judge this FTD CD before it's even released. Myself don't object either to the track-listing or the cover.I will listen with an open mind in April thanks.

I love the cover pic, and the simple design. Not too thrilled about the tracklist, though I am SURE once we're hearing this CD we'll all find some gem on it that makes it worth it. But I would have saved the homerecorded stuff for it's own FTD release, with the 1958 Fadal tapes, like they did with In a Private Moment. EP3577, If You Love Me Let Me Know wasn't recorded in the studio, Way Down had only two takes and a false start, and outtakes for the song Raised on Rock are not known to exist anymore, or are lost... For sure FTD is saving things for the classic album reissues of Promised Land, From Elvis in Memphis, EP Blvd, etc.

Relax and leave the driving to us - 50+ releases since FTD started - nothing to complain about here folks ;-)
Tony C wrote on February 17, 2006
Unlike one posting on this site, I was not expecting either "Down In The Alley" or "If You Love Me" to be on this CD. "Down In The Alley" was not recorded in Memphis, and "If You Love Me" was not a studio recording at all.
GEORGE (GK) wrote on February 19, 2006
Get Low.. "Duh" is not needed! I am very aware that the home recordings were recorded in Memphis!! I would just prefer to have the "Home recordings" on another collection, thats all I'm saying ! Please try and keep up !! I find when you mix "Studio Recordings".. with "home recordings ".. it ruins the flow of the CD (album) The casual Home recording is never of "equal Quality".. I would be better to have a "Home Recordings".. CD.. with this material on it..
