Yup, Viva Las Vegas was just named the most identified song with Vegas, sort of like an official anthemn. Too bad, another oppurtunity for some great moments missed.

oh yes, Viva Las Vegas...it would have been the perfect intro. Could have gone down into Vegas' history if there is any history to it at all. Look what Georgia On My Mind became to the very state by the influence and civil courage of the late Ray Charles...

Yes Elvis changed the opening show but reverted back because he felt the audience didn't like it. That's no surprise when you add songs like Down In The Alley, Good Time Charlie & open with Big Boss Man. The audience does not identify Elvis with songs like that. Big Boss Man is fine within the show, but its a poor opener. How about adding songs from his great catalog, like Don't, I Was The One, Fool Such As I, His Latest Flame, maybe another Sun song, and why didn't he ever try Viva Las Vegas, a natural for the Vegas stage? The crowd would have gone nuts with these songs. His show by this time was predictable and somewhat boring, but Elvis was bored as well with no new challenges on the horizon after Aloha. He knew he was doomed to play Vegas and tour the USA several times a year and accepted it for some reason, money I guess. As for whoever said the quote, its true regardless.

didn't elvis change the opening and add more songs in august of 1974.and show didn't go over to well.so went back to tried-and-true format.maybe that's what they wanted to hear.and beside what did dave hebler know was just a yes man.never really cared for elvis.

One of his entourage one said, 'How can you help a person who doesn't want to help himself?' Truer words were never spoken. Elvis is the only one to blame for what happened to him physically. The Colonel shares some of the blame for putting him out there every night to give uninspired shows like this, shows with no motive to change the material, nothing different night after night. Elvis fans who dont see this or won't own up to this , are in denial.

"All of his entourage should be blamed". For what? What about Elvis himself? He was the only one who could save himself and he chose not to. Blaming anyone else is just ridiculous. Why try to pass the buck? One thing Evis was sadly very much lacking in was will power.
